Ida is the best. I’m a fan of her refusal to back down on looking out for Loki, on advocating for his right to be alive, even his right as a child to be kept safe by adults, even strangers.

I think that Shaky probably becomes empress due to Rocks winning Gloriosa in a Davy Back Fight not long after this point.

I really enjoyed this one. I really liked the way Roger and Garp looked like Ace and Luffy.

i mean i think he’s kind of fucked from the failed infanticide. i think at some level he definitely learns to appreciate some people and creatures. it’s like, what’s luffy if literally no one loved him from rip.

Loki calling Ida a gold digger is probably a learned behavior from living with Estrid’s family for so long (also yeah, being yeeted as a newborn didn’t help)

I like the Loki, Luffy parallels in how they become enamored by pirates, imagine how different things would be if Rocks took Loki (but I would assume Harald wouldn’t allow it, so Rocks made it easier for Loki by beating the shit out of him).

What I most enjoyed about this chapter is the new characterizations we get of both Roger and Rocks. Roger embodies a lot of the traits that Luffy has but also is his own person (hot blooded youth chasing after women and picking fights for the sake of them). Rocks is similar to Blackbeard but I doubt Blackbeard would have refused Kaido’s proposal to force Harald to work with them.

The theme of inherited will in One Piece is strong and both Luffy and Blackbeard are inheriting the wills of Roger and Rocks but also still having their own distinct personality.

Oda is for sure saving Loki’s fruit for a big reveal!

Rocks knew about Imu so knowing about the Nika fruit isn’t too impossible. I think Rocks wants two fruits for some specific reason, but Blackbeard went after the darkness fruit because he figured out it could let him steal fruit powers and took Whitebeard’s as a way to test that.

Rocks’ motivation is sooo interesting. Literally all we know is that he’s aware of Imu and wants to topple the WG, but it doesn’t feel like it’s entirely for self interested reasons.

One of the fruits is definitely the one that Loki ends up eating and the other is likely the one from God Valley because I can’t think of another reason he’d have to go there although we still don’t know if that was the Nika fruit. Blackbeard also had a deep knowledge of devil fruits to specifically look for the darkness fruit so I wonder if there’s some sort of combination that’s important

More interesting Rocks tidbits from this chapter. Most interesting to me is his kinda Luffy-like reaction to Kaido suggesting they force Harald to do something.

“Elbaf is the key to taking down the Holyland”

    angel-biblical

Rocks did win all of his crew members through Davy Back fights. Everyone on his crew is there because of the pirate code and shared interests. I think Rocks has a red line on forcing people against their will to join him because he’s a worshipper of Davy Jones and would rather win Harald’s heart rather than attack him (which he possibly might not win, Rocks pirates are strong but I don’t think they’re go to war with Elbaf strong).

TL;DR I think pirates and marines to Rocks are fair game but people outside of that aren’t forced to join him.
