As far as I can tell, this is a purely performative “loyalty test.” The text of the bill would require people with dual citizenship to submit a letter to either the US Secretary of State or the US Secretary of Homeland Security (lol) renouncing their dual citizenship. Notably, neither of these officials actually has the power to compel a foreign government to do jack shit. Unless other countries pass their own laws making it impossible to hold dual Amerikkkan citizenship, this will accomplish exactly nothing beyond scoring some performative points. It’s red meat for the nationalist base, like most things.
