Hey, you’re the creator of the original r/risa back on Reddit! Yeah, it’s crazy how quickly the burrito truck tanked it…the exodus practically happened overnight! I found out about Ten Forward not 48 hours after Stamets created it, and by then 95% of the posters had already moved away from Risa. I’m sorry they killed your creation, it’s a real shame it had to happen over such stupid reasons.

      I sure am, and thanks!

Yeah, I am genuinely sad they killed it… but not all that surprised. I cut ties with that instance precisely because their moderation style is so opaque and capricious. It’s great to see the spirit of the place live on here.

Maybe next time divide the power of the instance between people. From there you could create some policies to handle issues.

It seems like drama in community infrastructure is common. Its best to think ahead.

Sorry about your instance though. I take it you didn’t buy the domain.

On paper, we did that. There are multiple admins and we laid out a mission statement and guiding principles to try and ensure everyone was on the same page.

But at the end of the day, there’s one name on the domain registration and one person getting the monthly bill. When that person tells you “these other people are more important to the success of this instance than you are” following a disagreement on how to apply those guiding principles, there’s not much you can do but get out of Dodge.
