I’m not aware of any UK brands that use plastic for their teabags. That sounds like a really stupid idea.
A few companies (Teapigs comes to mind) use bags that feel plasticy, but those aren’t actually plastic. In Teapigs case, it’s made of cornstarch.
Yorkshire use plant based PLA to stick the bags together.
Thought I’m not sure what the impact of this is.PLA’s a bio-plastic that, while technically biodegradable, will only break down under very specific industrial composting conditions - we’re talking heat above 55-70°C, and in the presence of microorganisms. It’s a lot better than fossil-fuel plastics, but it’s still not great.
Lucky my local council incinerates the food waste in that case 🙃
I was inspecting a teapigs bag only yesterday. I was getting ready to quietly fume, but saw that the box says it isn’t plastic.
Oh god, please, no!
That´s even worse than paper tea bags. Loose leave is the way.
