It’s crazy how ancient this artefact is. It’s an Egyptian column from 3500 years ago that was transported to Istanbul around 1700 years by Roman emperors.
It’s also 20 min by public transport from my house.

That’s cool af. Count me jealous
Actually it’s closer to 30-40 min at rush hour 🤣
I was visiting London a little bit ago and wandering down the Thames first night I was there. I just look up and there is an Ancient Egyptian obelisk. A nice little sign about how they were “gifted” it. Was totally unexpected
I know the title is for the sake of the reference, but I’m pretty sure it was still called Constantinople back then
By the 19th century, the Turks were consistently calling it Istanbul, though ‘Constantinople’ was still in use outside of the Ottoman Empire.
The official name was still Constantinople until 1930 though, so maybe it should be “Istanbul AND Constantinople” rather than “Istanbul not Constantinople”
That’s no body’s business but the Turks.
Doo doo doo, doo doo doo doo doo doo
Nice title. I see what you did there.
I hate that song, but only cause it gets stuck in my head.
$5 says this has been destroyed since. Probably by ISIS.
Istanbul is a long way from where ISIS operated. It still exists.
