I have a theory: Sports Medicine doctors have the mindset that they are trying to improve immediate performance, they are looking for direct measurable effects. They are the natural experimenters of modern medicine.

Where as most other types of doctors are helping to manage people, and don’t really have the expectation that their patients will improve. (Accepted the normality of irreversible degradation)

The LCHF/Keto/Carnivore space is filled with Sports Medicine doctors, more so then any other - at least that is the impression I get.

I guess I don’t follow all that many of them, I have seen cardiac specialists, GPs, molecular biologists, endocrinologists

One of my favourite youtube channels is Low Carb Downunder which is videos almost entirely from conferences where many different sorts of researchers present their research on LCHF diets.

Recent videos include Dr Paul Mason on concussion, Dr Sanjeev Balakrisnan on mental health, Dr Louise Phillips on helping GPs prescribe low carb, and Dr Hasthi Dissanyake and Timothy Trugen (Trugen presenting Dissanyake’s work) on traditional diets for northern Australian indigenous people

Yeah! I found them during the pandemic and have been watching random lectures from their backlog! They are great, 100%, best value for time on youtube.

Sports Medicine doctors are often put in situations where they are DEMANDED to improve performance, i.e. attached to sports teams. I think this sets them up as a group who is naturally looking to experiment and find a edge

In a broad sense, dfferent medical specialties draw doctors with different personalities.

The second biggest group are the obesity specialists (ex Westman). I think for similar reasons.
