    In addition, it suffers from the same linguistic problem as freedom fries. Feels wrong in the mouth. Too many syllables. American gulf might have had staying power, but gulf of America is just harder to say

      Mexico has one less sylable than America, the same if you say America with an american accent. Your point is invalid.

        You repeated my point, and then claimed it’s invalid. Gulf of America has too many syllables, it doesn’t roll the same way as gulf of Mexico. And I am an American, speaking in an American accent. You don’t get to tell me what sounds right to me, or how many syllables I pronounce something with.
