I can see why they were not before with the lack of an appropriate level of nazis content to befit apple devices. Im stating to think they will go the way of tesla. Would be funny if iphones and apple laptops became a redneck thing and city folks were putting lables on their laptops saying they bought them before.

As someone who in an earlier era self-described as an unapologetic Apple fanboy, I’m surprised by how quickly and comprehensively they have flushed all that good will away. I was already critical of their increasingly visionless product strategy. And I had already tired of the repetitive, self-absorbed marketing. But, to see them capitulate to a fascist party on several symbolic points is too much. If they’re willing to fold on trivia like the Gulf of Mexico (in Maps), and fold on problematic platforms like Musk’s Twitter, then I have to assume every claim they make, (like their commitment to privacy) is equally hollow. JFC, I hate Apple so much.

      I got my first iPhone in 2009. A 3GS. Since then I’ve had a 4S, 5, 6, XR, and 13 mini.

Two weeks ago I took delivery of a Google Pixel 9, onto which I immediately put de-Googled GrapheneOS.

16 years of iPhones, 18 years of Macs. My primary Mac is a 15" M2 Air, which, as soon as Apple drop macOS support for, will be getting Asahi and that’ll be that. Apple are probably the least surprising, but certainly the most disappointing to me.

I just can’t deal with big corps any more. They’re all shithouse. All of them. Bit by bit I’m learning how to self host a bunch of tools that until now I’ve been paying for.

It was easy to figure out that their marketing around privacy was complete bullshit. If you read their privacy policy (the current one or say one from ~10 years ago), it’s pretty clear they give themselves the right to collect everything and do whatever they feel like with your data. Sure, it’s all couched in comforting sounding language, but that’s just a ruse.

They also state your sensitive data “can not be read by Apple”… That’s the kind of legalese that implies the surveillance state (anyone they grant access) can absolutely read your sensitive data.

Macs are the only reason I still use Apple stuff. My M2 Air is a legitimate beast of a laptop which, 18 months on still has an all day battery.

When they lock down macOS as much as they have ios, that’s when I’m putting Linux on it.
