Lemmy only, but its not a public instance, sorry! dubvee.org is really good, and you can upload images as soon as you are registered.

not difficult; just requires consistency. The hard parts are upgrades between versions.

You can’t really follow individuals on lemmy like in mastodon; You can subscribe to different communities, and see new posts from those communities in your personal feed.
You can lookup a user by clicking on their name: https://lemm.ee/u/jet@hackertalks.com ; there you can see communities they moderator or post to, and you can subscribe to those if they are interesting to you.
