Good to know the situation with cross compatibility has improved! I just saw enough posts of people having issues with a shared Windows/Linux NTFS drive over the years to advice against that setup.
Great, good for you. But what’s your point? OP explicitly said they have a specific use case for BTRFS and just wanted to know if there are any specific issues related to gaming with it. arch-chroot being slightly different with that filesystem is not an issue for 99% of EndeavourOS users.
Yeah but when is that gonna matter? It uses a graphical installer so you won’t need to touch the arch-chroot command at all. And if for some reason you do, the Arch wiki is there for you.
I don’t know? It’s been a long time since I used Arch, and besides OP is using EndeavourOS so it won’t matter.
Unless you’re making hundreds of snapshots with massive changes between each it won’t matter. It might matter if you plan to use spinning rust as your main drive, but I imagine you’ll be using an SSD.
I use Fedora which defaults to BTRFS and never once had an issue with any game because of it. Your file system shouldn’t matter for gaming at all so long as you stay on Linux native ones and avoid NTFS Windows drives.
You’re welcome! But yeah, this just further proves my point.
Arch is hard not just because of the installation, it’s because of everything after. There are so many small things you expect your OS to have set up automatically that you might not even know exist that Arch expects you to do by hand. Arch doesn’t enable TRIM on your SSDs by default, it has no firewall. It doesn’t install microcode, leaving you open to many security exploits. It NEVER cleans old downloaded packages from it’s cache, something you will only find out about after you start looking for where 300GB of your disk space went to. It requires specific arcane syntax commands to install and update packages. You seriously expect someone coming over from Windows and MacOS to do those things or even know they need to do them? I haven’t used Ubuntu in a long time and wouldn’t use it now but it’s still an easy recommendation just because I know it has the least abrasions for a new user to encounter. After they learn how Linux works and feel comfortable, they themselves can branch out and try other distros.
I always summoned Solaire to help me through that fight. Jolly cooperation to even the odds!
Looks good but I personally would switch the CPU to a Ryzen 5 7600x and go for an RX6800xt or RX7800xt instead. Unless the games you play are heavy on the CPU usage you are likely to get way more mileage from a better GPU than the 3D cache and 2 extra cores. You can always buy whatever the latest 3D AM5 chip will be in the future when you feel the need to upgrade, or a used 7800x3D for a much lower price.
I recommend taking a look at this Linux gaming wiki guide about getting started. It is geared towards gaming, but even if that is not your primary focus there is a lot of really useful tips and steps to take for anyone trying to switch to Linux. If you have some other questions you can shoot me a DM, I’m by no means an expert but I’ve been using Linux for around 4 years now so I like to think I’m at least moderately experienced!
You aren’t the only one! Living on the bleeding edge did have its benefits, but I’ll take the reliability of Fedora over dealing with random Arch issues any day (it helps that Fedora still keeps its packages very up to date so you don’t miss much). Arch did teach me a lot so I still appreciate it, and they do have the best wiki!
Gnome just returned as a viable desktop environment option for me! I switched to KDE precisely because of it’s Wayland VRR support, and I’m quite happy with it, but it’s nice to know I can come back to Gnome if I ever want to in the future and not miss out on a crucial feature of my monitor.
Are you using the terrain to your advantage? All of the fights you described getting wrecked at can become a breeze just by using the environment to your benefit.
During the fight against the skeleton mages before Wither’s coffin, don’t try to fight them in the giant open room, go into Wither’s room and wait for them to come to you while throwing some grease on the stairs before. Have your ranged characters take potshots at them and run back into the room. Same exact strategy for paladins of Tyr, lure them out of the house while dropping nasty surfaces on the exit. Hyenas you want to try to nuke before they turn/run for help, your paladin has Smites for that and Astarion can work his sneak attacks.
Wizards are absolutely busted when paired with melee characters even early game (they only get more and more insane as they gain levels). Sleep is your best friend. Guaranteed hit + critical is lethal when used with a Smite or Sneak attack. Hold Person is a near guaranteed kill on a target if it lands, especially if you have a Hasted melee. In general, your spellcaster’s job is crowd control and AoE damage. Shadowheart’s default Domain is pretty meh, I always respec her into Light for way better spells and abilities. As a paladin, 99% of your spellslots should be spent on Divine Smites. Your spells are generally pretty weak (Heroism is pretty good early game), while Smites are absolutely insane. Potions of Haste are crazy powerful early game, use them on your Paladin whenever you are in a tough fight. Wear good armor/shields, Gale can use a shield with no penalties so slap one on him for free +2 AC. The most important advice is action economy is king. Use any means available to deprive enemies of their actions. Line of sight, surfaces like grease or web, crowd control spells. Make them waste an action to Dash to you while you wait for them with a Fireball ready.
This happens whenever you multi-class into paladin/cleric as any other character, didn’t know you don’t need to do so specifically for Shadowheart. The fact that the god specific paladin dialogue exists really makes me wish we got an optional god selection for paladins during character creation, having to sacrifice a feat or a bunch of class features just to get some RP dialogue kinda sucks.
This makes me miss having auto pause on trap found from Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2. Would be kinda cool to have a setting to automatically turn on turn-based mode when a trap is spotted.
I was working under the assumption the player kept Karlach alive and un-mind flayered, it’s possible she never even made it to the end because Wyll killed her or the player committed some good old tiefling genocide and she left. The very idea of a DLC is honestly incredibly unlikely, but if one did happen and it wasn’t just some unrelated story, resolving Karlach’s engine troubles is probably the least convoluted one to implement.

The eye opening moment is when one of these threads touches on a subject you know a lot about and the top upvoted comment is spouting complete bullshit. See it once and you start to doubt the credibility of every other highly upvoted comment that looks legit but could be just as wrong, you simply don’t know enough to immediately disprove it.
