If you converted all the energy in the human body into an hour of electricity it would be like 1.75 petawatts. So don’t write her off just yet.

Games@lemmy.world•What's a recent game you've tried playing that isn't worth the hype?English
1·9 days agoAbsolutely. The original Deus Ex is pretty excellent too. And the turn based Shadowrun games. It’d be cool if 2077 was better though, the tabletop game is sick.

Which is after dumping $40 billion into their economy in the form of financial aid.
Basically we’re propping up their beef industry instead of funding snap.
Yeah, I can dig that. Frankly my outrage is more about the cutting of nutritional assistance to impoverished humans, but the funding of industrial beef farming is also pretty fucked up.
They’re taking the money from people who need it and are using it to pay people in Argentina to torture and kill cows.

Tech@programming.dev•Nearly 90% of Windows Games now run on Linux, latest data shows — as Windows 10 dies, gaming on Linux is more viable than ever
1·21 days agoWell I personally do run a business out of my home, and I take security very seriously.
I’m not selling anything, I’m explaining the importance of keeping your operating system up to date.
Email phishing attacks often target OS exploits, there’s two Windows 10 zero days that just came out which allow code to run with elevated permissions without user authorization. That’s the sort of thing that enables a piece of malware compromise your entire system.

7·21 days agoBackups are important, but it’s also important to have a secure OS; they can do a lot more than delete your data, you can have your session keys stolen, your accounts compromised, and your files used for blackmail.
I guess if you don’t use the computer for anything except games, and you backup your saves, then you can treat the machine like a toy and let it get owned, factory reset when you want to use is again; but even then, you’d be letting the attacker into your network.
I really can’t imagine a situation where it’s better than just using Mint, which is more reliable and secure than any version of Windows could ever dream of being.

16·23 days agoEl Salvador is literally running a death camp, they don’t plan to ever release the prisoners. They just keep them alive for free labor and to avoid the stigma of running a Holocaust; but Germany was the same at first, they only ramped up the death at the end of the war.

54·23 days agoThird time’s a charm.
It’s wild to me how difficult switching can be when so many devices come with Linux and people don’t even think about it.
The Steamdeck is more stable than any windows gaming PC I’ve had; Android phones are rock solid, less prone to issues than a PC; Chromebooks work forever without getting malware, and receive updates for more than a decade; but try to DIY it and you’re in the fire swamp of driver issues.
Have you tried Mint? It usually just works. Atomic distros are also looking pretty promising, they’re so stable and recoverable.

123·23 days agoSure, they’re just venting, but I just wanna talk about Linux all day. I’ll listen to their problems, treat them with respect and understanding, but you better believe I will also squeeze in a little special interest sauce on my side of the conversation sandwich.
