  • This is a really good article going over class basis of pacifism, and touching on its historical failure to undo injustice:

What about Pacifism / pacifist socialism? Is violence necessary to acheive socialism? What about Martin Luther King Jr. and Gandhi? audiobook

    Some quotes:

Will the peaceful abolition of private property be possible?

It would be desirable if this could happen, and the communists would certainly be the last to oppose it. Communists know only too well that all conspiracies are not only useless, but even harmful. They know all too well that revolutions are not made intentionally and arbitrarily, but that, everywhere and always, they have been the necessary consequence of conditions which were wholly independent of the will and direction of individual parties and entire classes.

But they also see that the development of the proletariat in nearly all civilized countries has been violently suppressed, and that in this way the opponents of communism have been working toward a revolution with all their strength. If the oppressed proletariat is finally driven to revolution, then we communists will defend the interests of the proletarians with deeds as we now defend them with words.

On the question of whether the armed struggle is the only path to liberation, I would answer that at least in the case of our country, we have no other path. And we think that in the immense majority of latin american countries, there is no other path than the armed struggle. It seems to be the same case for countries in Asia and Africa. In general imperialism counts on, in every way, joining forces with the oligarchy, of every country, to impede the democratic revolution in every country. And its hanging people with a rope that can only be cut by armed struggle.

Revolutionaries didn’t choose armed struggle as the best path. Its the path the oppressors imposed on the people. So people only have two choices: To suffer, or to fight.

I’m starting to get annoyed by seeing the same post 4 or 5 times in a row. I sort by New and since the posting happens concurrently, they just spam my feed with a page of identical posts.

lemmy-ui has a front page de-duplicator that combines cross-posted links (preferring the first one, but showing the others in a single text line) so you don’t see them multiple times in the feed. Any other front end could add this, the code freely available for anyone to use.

so it would be necessary to aggregation crosspost comments, interleaving them under the single, unique, unfiltered post.

lemmy’s GetPostResponse contains a list of crossposts, and it’s up to UI’s if they want to try to combine comments from those (by calling getcomments), in whatever way they’d like. In lemmy-ui we’ve chosen to link the posts at the top rather than combine comment threads.

One is that Palestinians are a semitic peoples, while the settlers are nearly all euro-amerikkkan origin. So even by Israel’s old testament blood quantum calculus, they have much less claim to the land than the indigenous peoples do.

  • There’s certainly a lot after that, but this Smedley Butler quote is from 1935:

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

And of course there’s the native american genocide, unparalleled in history, which mostly took place in the 1800s.

You dronies are so transparent. You only come out to decry X country as soon as the US or its vassals attacks it. Then its all both sides bad.

No country is perfect, but Iran is doing what very few countries are brave enough to do rn, and defending themselves from the child-killing scourge of the middle east.

Even if you oppose Iran’s sovereignty or its theocracy, you’ll have to admit that Iran’s theocracy does far less harm than any given western country does.
