I’d just like to point out that, from the perspective of somebody watching AI develop for the past 10 years, completing 30% of automated tasks successfully is pretty good! Ten years ago they could not do this at all. Overlooking all the other issues with AI, I think we are all irritated with the AI hype people for saying things like they can be right 100% of the time – Amazon’s new CEO actually said they would be able to achieve 100% accuracy this year, lmao. But being able to do 30% of tasks successfully is already useful.

Absolutely, this matches my experience. I think this is also the experience of most coders who willingly use AI. I feel bad for the people who are forced to use it by their companies. And those who are laid off because of C-levels who think AI is capable of replacing an experienced coder.

AI as it exists today is only effective if used sparingly and cautiously by someone with domain knowledge who can identify the tasks (usually menial ones) that don’t need a human touch.

plausible, but my experience from dissecting these kinds of games is that they tend not to be as space efficient as you’d think they could be if they were the kaze emanuar type. The fact that they opted to have 257 distinct values for the laurels suggests to me that they weren’t prioritizing space efficiency.

My best (wildly speculative) guess is that a designer, knowing 256 is a common limit, wasn’t thinking carefully and said the maximum value should be 256 (instead of 255), and then an overly pedantic coder implemented this to the letter while rolling their eyes.

Shout out to Castlevania II, where you can hold anywhere from 0 to 256 laurels. Yes, you read that right – 256, not 255. I inspected RAM to double check. It’s a 16-bit word on an 8-bit system with a maximum value of 0x100. They could have used 8 bits instead of 16. But no, they really did choose this arbitrary number.

I live in North America, and I have European descent, and I have a connection to the land. I can trace my family back 13 generations in North America. But even if I could not, being born somewhere gives you a connection to the land. Unless you’re Trump, I daresay this is a widely-agreed-on perspective. I don’t think anyone should have to be kicked out of the place they were born.

Doesn’t seem terribly likely to me for Musk to concede before the election. There’s still something to gain from it being public knowledge how many voted for you last election. This did happen recently in BC, Canada though, where the established conservatives bowed out at the last minute to give votes to the new far-right party.
