It’s funny to think about, because I have the exact opposite experience. I think it really comes down to the type of person though.
Most of the people I help (with IT) is people who is not that comfortable on a tablet and would like the next step up. A cheap laptop, with bigger screen and a physical keyboard. Used for banking, writing, browsing. Nothing that really can’t be done on a tablet as well.
All of these people use Linux. Mostly Mint or ElementaryOS, depending on their preference.
If we add gaming into the mix, it becomes a little more “complicated”. This really depends on the person. I have family/friends who game on Linux, but I also know one who didn’t last that long using Linux, because it simply didn’t fit their needs.

Matrix is the protocol. Element is the client and just one of many.

In what way do you define “just needing a computer to use when they need it”?
I have several family members and friends who know absolutely nothing about computers. They all use Linux and the amount of IT-support needed has never been lower.
Do you have some examples? I have posts from today and yesterday among my subscriptions.

What’s the average age of the people you help?

I guess that’s a start.

My only issue with .ml that it’s pretty much lemmygrad.ml and hexbear.net in disguise. They are simply not being honest about who the instance is for.
Don’t misunderstand. I don’t have anything against any of them, but they should really just be honest who lemmy.ml is for. Just like lemmygrad.ml and hexbear.net is.
Lemmygrad.ml first rule is: No capitalist apologia / anti-communism.
This is pretty much a hidden rule on Lemmy.ml.
I remember a long time ago when Nutomic was hosting peertube.social. There, the rules was very honest and you knew what you signed up for in the instance. So why not just do that now as well?
Hint: look at Dessalines modlog
Or when they keep calling European countries socialist lol

The Automatons speak Swedish? They are truly the enemy of humanity and managed democracy!
I’ve looked through everything and it doesn’t seem to be possible. Only the administrator can see a users comments.

People have been made used to closed gardens. Some people can’t comprehend that open gardens and free choice exists.

There’s only the official PeerTube app, NewPipe and GrayJay that I’m aware of. No idea how these apps functions on Android TV though.

Lemmy.ml isn’t the “flagship” or default instance when you go to join-Lemmy.org.
That’s awesome. Was missing the GPU transcoding for some time now.
Weirdly just searching “Loops” on the store doesn’t result in the app, but a bunch of crap.
Have to search “Loops by Pixelfed” for the app to actually show up.

I just can’t get over the name change from Revolt to Stoat, but at least a stoat is cute AF.
