Anyone else remember when Trudeau was first elected, how one of his main promises was to end all subsidies for the fossil fuel industry and transition Canada towards renewable technologies, instead?
Whatever happened to that goal? How the fuck did we get from there…to here?
cons and libs are literally the same party, both are right leaning, and the overton window shifted to the point that the NDP are virtually a non issue. we are a two party system with smoke and mirrors. the rich place bets and investments on both sides. some profit more, the other might profit a bit less. but still. profit. depends on whos steering the ship and whos the most likely to succeed. but above all else. optics, public opinion, pizazz…who is going to keep the population productive and obediant the longest. etc.
canadian politicians are only allowed to go so far as independant policy makers. once they reach a certain level, they either play the game, or leave the table. and its not just canadian wealth dictating who comes and goes. its global wealth, whether we like to believe it or not.
a great example. self defence laws. the current iteration was created under harper, partially written and put forth by PP. liberals did nothing to change it over the last decade, and now PP, is trying to create the “castle law” since he cant really bitch about carbon tax anymore. although its technically still a thing, just not named “carbon tax” and the new reality of it doesnt fit into a clean two or three letter term like “carbon tax carney” anymore. its too difficult to explain in a sound bite. but “castle law” sure as shit does. now hes blaming the libs for a law he helped create. libs did nothing to remove that law (because why would they? they both wanted the law in the first place, more control)
so. its all political theatre. its like two directors vying for a script from a big studio. they can add their own flair to it, visually, but the plot remains the same, and the studio decides what that is.
the studio being oil/gas/energy/mining/telecom/tech/realestate/oligarchs/billionaires/etc etc etc.

No, they’re not. Stripped of the rhetoric, their positions on the economy and climate change are uncomfortably close together, yes, but their social policies are still different. The Conservatives are pretty obviously anti-queer, for one thing.
I get that the Liberals aren’t as far left as you would like—they’re not as far left as I would like either—but don’t lose your ability to differentiate between bad and worse. That’s part of how the US ended up where it is.
im well aware, but im also not going to play pretend and put “elbows up” while that same cat (carney, a millionaire banker) is literally stealing, and giving away all of our personal information without warrant, disregarding our constitutional right to privacy. to the very same man threatening to annex us “economically” and to companies like palantir, expanding the surveillance state, and putting canadian citizens at risk of becoming targets of a fascist government that is actively trying to kill LGBTQ+ people and immigrants en mass. brainwashing the masses. you know, the same guy he was supposed to fight? so we could keep being canadian or whatever.
i dislike the cons more, obviously, they are meant to be dislikable for people with more empathy and community mindedness. but the track record and implications of the current leadership, with bills C5/C2. are fucking horrifying and dystopian. also the cons arent in power, and im going to criticize people actively making terrible changes, regardless of whether or not they are openly homophobic.
one day, carney wont be the leader, and it may just be the cons turn, you know, the big meany racist homophobes. and we allowed good cop carney to pass laws that took our rights away just before bad cop PP (or whoever wins next) comes in and fucks us all, dry, face down in the mud. until we all eventually die of shit like climate change and resource wars, or whatever fun things come next. and all the actors who caused it go to their bunkers and wait it out while drinking blood and fucking kids or whatever the hell it is the reptillian psychopaths like to do in private. (i jest, but you get my point, i hope)
