What are some seasonal beers that you like?
-
Halloween
-
Christmas
-
Etc.
I do not recommend Jack-O. I hoped for a pumpkin vibe. It’s way too sweet for my liking.
every season is pbr season
I’m white lady tier basic for pumpkin beer. The elysian 12ers are my favorite w midnight owl topping the list
Xmas I like mad elf the best
Oktoberfests I can take or leave
Ayinger has a decent Oktoberfest (Marzen) beer
This year’s is too sweet, but Sierra Nevada’s Oktoberfest beer changes every year in collaboration with a new brewery, and some have been pretty good
Trader Joe’s spiced ale (winter) is pretty good, it is brewed by Unibroue but only sold under the Trader Joe’s label
Leinenkugel’s has two that I like, though I think there is some rose tinted glasses effect from when I drank them.
Their vanilla winter porter I remember liking, but when they first rolled it out, the first few batches had a very bad lactobacteria infection that I don’t know how it got passed QA. As a result it was often heavily discounted for a long time afterwards while I was at university. So it was one of the cheapest beers I could get and drank at parties.
Also Canoe Paddler, their summer Kölsch I remember liking, but I have only drank it while vacationing on a lake in the summer. So that might have influenced my positive view of it.
I thought all the other beer nerds here got the wall already.
If you want hipster cred for this question go find some Tsjeeses Reserva from De Struise. It’s ridiculous.
The Winter Porter is pretty good
I usually pick up a six pack when I see it
Nice flavor, the vanilla isn’t too strong so it just balances out the bitter notes
christmas beers are the best seasonal beers. the other ones are too gimmicky.
la chouffe (n’ice chouffe) winter beer has ruined a christmas or two for me.
too gimmicky.
I bought a variety pack of seasonal Samuel Adams beers and gimmicky is definitely the word.
The fall seasonal stuff that you’d find at a regular American grocery store is always the worst lol
St. Bernardus has a nice Christmas beer!
No Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanza/Solstice/NYE/Festivus is complete without some Troegs Mad Elf.
Whole Hog pumpkin ale is my favorite pumpkin ale of all time and they have it at HHN. It’s not overly spiced or overly sweet which is imo the downfall of most pumpkin ales.
Oktoberfest styles are really enjoyable
Sam Adams used to have a variety called Alpine Spring which is/was a zwickelbier/kellerbier i.e. an unfiltered lager. It was so crisp and refreshing but they stopped selling it. I was in Austria last year and they have that variety almost everywhere
I’m a huge IPA and imperial stout dork, but i’m such a sucker for a good pumpkin beer. I love them. I get excited when I see the pumpkins start to come out.
Shipyard pumpkinhead ale is the gold standard IMO. Pumpkiny with just a little spice. It’s the first pumpkin beer I remember.
Also if you want it sweeter/pumpkin spicier, then rimming the glass with a sugar and spice mix (which shipyard also sells) makes it a little more fun
