So far I’ve been using an old smartphone but the snooze function is unreliable, i.e. it stops at some point and there’s no way to just slap it to make it snooze.

So that is one very important feature.

It also must have an option to be completely dark, preferably slap it to light the clock for a few seconds.

And a choice of soft/rising alarm tones or preferably even upload own audio files.

And not constantly connected to a power outlet.

That’s very specific but I’m willing to spend some money on it. It doesn’t necessarily have to be manufactured in Europe, but that’s where I will order it.

you can tell home assistants to wake you to a song if you have a subscription that allows playing of them. Might be able to tell it to play any content. You can also have to play an internet radio station or it just has a routing like weather and such. Im pretty sure you can actually get the weather and stuff and have it end with a radio station. It will respond to a verbal snooze command so you don’t even need to slap it in the dark. It also could be used to play music or nature sounds or such when going to sleep. Alarms and timers are the most useful things about them really. That and things like what time does X (some store) open/close.
