I do think it’s possible to vote your way into a situation you cannot vote yourself out of.
Like, for example, the way the system is currently setup gives much more representation (and therefore power) to smaller states. To change that, we would need to amend the constitution which would require a super majority. When have institutions willingly voted to give up their unearned power?
This reminds me of how much I hate the US’s voting system. It’s almost as much as I hate how complacent the general American population is about it as if it’s somehow fair.
Whether people think it’s necessary or not is irrelevant.
Fascism is an open expression of political violence. It needs violence, it creates violence, it supports violence, it thrives on violence.
Political violence is already here. It just may not have reached you yet.
Sadly, I have to agree with this. It does not necessarily follow that the response must be violent, but we need to be honest about what’s happening. Trump is already using violence against us, it’s just a matter of who has and hasn’t been affected by it yet.
Also, when people talk about opposing political violence, in reality they’re mostly opposing political violence spreading to the elites responsible.
Notice there was no mainstream discussion of political violence until an elite who encouraged violence got shot.
The question is how you respond.

Part of fascism — consolidating power in general — is ensuring that your opponents have no peaceful option left to regain power. If they resort to violence, it’s an excuse to destroy them. If they don’t resort to violence, there are still many ways to craft a casus belli to justify the purge.
We on the left spent decades trying to warn people about the fascists, but people are so incredibly stupid and hateful that they cheerfully handed over all the power to those monsters. Now it’s too late and violence is inevitable.

I think splittring populations into left and right is a meaningless distinction and designed to make people pick one of those sides. In reality both sides have much more in common with eachother than the politicians on each side.
You and me right here have a lot in common right away just writing in the same thread on lemmy. Politicians stand on stage and make grand statements for votes. At least I have nothing in common with those people.

People describe their own political beliefs, they don’t have a label thrust on them that they must use.

We need a general strike. The country would be brought to its knees if deprived of profit and labor. That tactic was extremely effective in Chile in 2019, and had they not fallen for the trick of liberal reform, they would’ve had a successful revolution on their hands with virtually no bloodshed.
If you aren’t in a union (or even if you are, it’s worth dual-carding), please consider joining the IWW to unionize your workplace (bonus: you’ll get higher wages, better benefits, and more time off if you succeed!) to strengthen a general strike if we finally manage to enact one.
The UAW is planning one for May 1st 2028, but it could happen sooner.

The “majority” in the survey only think this because it hasn’t impacted them yet. Once it does, they’ll slowly come to terms with reality.
