There’s a reading that it’s a decolonial struggle between earth and its space colonies. He literally wears a white mask and causes widespread destruction while attempting to uplift a ‘new man’ (newtypes). that is to say, by trying to fight the colonizer without exorcising the colonizer within you reproduce the logic of domination under a new banner.

There isn’t really, in pretty much all the timelines there’s a lot wrong on every side. The main character opposed to char isn’t really operating out of ideology but is more forced into the role because of the destruction around him.

Iron blooded orphans is kind of the closest to one where you can pick a side; but it’s a bit of a tragedy. The protagonists are lumpenproletariat child soldiers brutalized under capitalism to the point of revolting and then ultimately getting crushed.
