I fully expect this person is lying, but it frustrates me to no end that she feels entitled to project this meaning.

One of my best friends is Jewish, and was raised in the conservative-but-not-orthodox tradition. We’ve spoken once about Palestine about two years ago, and I’ve not brought it up with him again because I’m afraid his opinions haven’t changed. But during this discussion, he told me, seemingly honestly, that he was afraid to go to the campus of the nearby large university because of the pro-Palestine encampments. I asked him why and he told me because they were all very anti-semitic. I said how so? He said, well, they chant things like “From the river to the sea, Palestine must be free and kill all the Jews”. And I said, well hold on a sec, did they actually say that last part? And he said no, but that’s what they mean.

In all other aspects my friend lives in reality and engages with it as a rational person would, but (and he admits this) when discussing Israel he completely abandons reality. It is truly incredible the work that Israel has been able to accomplish to make themselves so prominent in the minds of so many Jewish people around the world that they will abandon all their other good and moral beliefs and even reject reality in its defense.
