Fuck patent trolls. Adeia doesn’t make shit, just patents it and sucks the blood out of everyone else.
Adeia, which spun out of Xperi, claims ownership of a large portfolio of bonding and interconnect IP. Its DBI and ZiBond technologies have already been licensed to major players in memory, CMOS image sensors, and 3D NAND. The company now argues AMD’s products make “extensive use” of the same concepts, asserting that its patented work has “greatly contributed” to AMD’s success.
The fact that they have licensed other tech in this domain is not a good sign.
Adeia’s about page does make it seem like they have more in common with a criminal organization than a legitimate venture:
Our patented innovations broadly cover all aspects of the entertainment experience, including guidance, discovery, search, recommendations, DVR, VOD, OTT, multi-screen, personalization, data analytics, advertising, imaging, content storage and high-performance computing.
Adeia licenses its patented media innovations for use with traditional linear television both in North America and internationally, and increasingly in connection with OTT, direct-to-consumer, and social media services that provide access to entertainment inside and outside the home on a broad array of devices
Realplayer had a lot of this when I first tried in 1997, that was almost ~30 years ago, so beyond US patent limits from my understanding.
Not to mention “innovations broadly cover all aspects of the entertainment experience” is clearly false.
