First week in new job after eight months of unemployment. I’m relieved, but knackered!

I’d like to say it was the usual slightly chaotic start, but it was even worse than that!

I’m sure it will all sort itself out over the next few weeks.

It’s raining… seriously, it’s not stopped since Sunday… well, maybe a slight exaggeration… it has stopped for at least… 2-3hrs at a time… several times. But basically, it’s not dried out enough anywhere for 4 days.

The flood plains have flooded… the pedestrian paths and cycleway out into the countryside may already be impassable, the river through town is rising and the reservoir overflow has been struggling to keep up, flooding the river on another flood pain before it reaches town… where it actually has to flow under buildings.

    It’s dark… it’s grey… and it’s fucking miserable.

I find myself wanting to crawl into bed at 8pm onwards… in fact it’s 8:40pm now… and I’m thinking… mmmm bed and a movie (not that sort you pervs… well… depends if I can convince the other arf with an early night too)… last night it was The Fifth Element… what classic from the 80’s or 90’s will it be tonight.

    Suggestions on a postcard too… no… wait… comment below.

Totally feel this. It’s depressing isn’t it? You feel like it’s about 10pm but it’s only just turned 6pm!

What did you end up watching?

Back to work after a holiday wasn’t ideal, but that’s the way it goes. This weekend was nice, though.

yeah alright cheers bruv, how’s yours?

This past couple of weeks after half term have just been a blur. Coupled with the nights drawing in, I’ve proper lost track of the days - I only tend to know it’s a weekend if the rugby or F1 chatter starts to pick up.

    Roll on March!

I gave up on F1 about 8-9yrs ago… I knew when it went to sky they’d find a way to screw people over… Promised that everyone who got F1 for free would continue to do so… then offered a free upgrade and better pricing… and ripped it away without telling you… oh… the F1 channel… that’s be an extra 20 quid a month you fucking muppet.

I cancelled my sky instead, and as my partners mum still had it… used her sky go login to watch it on a PC connected to the TV… when the ripped that away too… I said Fuck F1 and never watched it again.

From what little news I’ve read since… I’ve not actually missed anything interesting.

Agree with everything about Sky. I refuse to become a customer and support their model. I do enjoy their F1 coverage but it’s a shame it’s so expensive, and it has ads! Don’t charge a fucking subscription AND show ads - ridiculous.

Ehh I think there’s been more interesting seasons rather than bad ones. 2021 was absolutely insane and this year has been fantastic too in my opinion.

It’s entirely subjective, but I’d argue you’ve been misinformed. The Verstappen era was much like the Vettel era, but the midfield is closer than ever. The F2 and F3 are often the standout events of the weekend, but it’s a good time to be an armchair F1 fan (the ticket prices for most western events are fucking ludicrous mind).

I agree with the Sky sentiment though. I fucked the company off years ago - I was riding good deals for a number of years but when they wouldn’t honour them any more, I sacked it off.

F1 TV and a VPN is a brilliant option - fairly inexpensive by comparison and the coverage of F1 and the feeder series is really decent - not sure how it will look after the Apple TV announcement mind.

Otherwise, there’s the IPTV packages you can find online - one or two races often make the cost worthwhile, or if you’re dead keen on not spending money, then the F1 YouTube channel put highlights of all the F1 sessions and the F2&3 race sessions up mega rapidly - to the point where if I’ve missed the first half hour of a race, I just wait the extra hour or two and get the highlights instead.

It’s a good time to be an F1 fan just now.

Yeah followed the F1 through the weekend on the official YouTube channel - generally their stuff is up within the hour which is handy. Still surprised Bortoleto walked away from that T1 crash in the sprint race.

Too cold for outdoor DIY so back to my microcontrollers. I’m dicking around with presence detectors and failing miserably at getting anything solid working. HomeAssistant makes it fun as hell though, minimal programming required, and I spend quite a bit of time on the train now just reading up about signal protocols for shits and giggles apparently.

Did you know that UART serial doesn’t need a clock wire to synchronize communication in the way that I2C does? Huh, did you? Did you?

I didn’t know this, but I’ll now sleep soundly tonight knowing this! :D

What will the presence detectors be for? Switching on and off lights?

(So apparently with UART, you just set a “baud rate” which tells both devices what speed to operate at, which I think is cheating. Long live the holy clock wire!)

And yep – literally, just want it to switch on my hallway lights, as well as turn on some internal cameras when a presence is detected inside and I’m not actually home :O

Is it me, or are the days about 2 hours long now?

It seems like I wake up, do work, see that it’s daylight at lunchtime, then do work, go to bed…

Although some Inlaws visited on Saturday with their new car, so out for a cruising day… nice… not done that for ages.
