LOONG LOOOONG TAAAAAAANK
Won’t a simple bump fling the pilot from that tower?
this is meant specifically for crossing rivers, so you would presumably be moving relatively slowly and carefully during the process
(and I think that’s the commander, the driver’s down in the hull - I guess the commander would be communicating orders down to the driver for where to drive to in order to get out of the water, as the driver himself would obviously have absolutely no visibility)
would it not be easier to just have like a periscope or something
You need to also get air into the tank, so a snorkel is necessary too. But having a thinner tube to just function as a snorkel is indeed an alternative approach, Soviets tanks generally go for that type

But visibility through a periscope is never going to be as good as your eyes, and with this approach you also don’t have a good way to evacuate the tank in case some malfunction gets you stuck down in the water
with drones flying all around in modern warfare, a small snorkel/periscope would be a lot better for low visibility than the big man sized pipe on the leopard.
With drones flying all around, your tank will be covered by too many layers of slat armour, tree branches, and sheets of rubber to fit a snorkel anyways. Instead of fording you’d just hope you have a bridgelaying tank around.
Looks like it is modular… how far can you go with this?
that’s what the book says but there’s no way that noone has driven one of these and not thought “I wonder how many of these barrelly bits can I stack before it collapses?”
New Habi-trail part just dropped.
