Why is this not 100% green wtf
These are countries where not too long ago people shat and poured piss out their windows. Anglo castles had a potty house that sat over the castle walls and they’d hang their clothes in it because the unique environment killed the fleas and bugs on their clothes. They have never been known for their hygiene, Native Americans said the first colonists stank to hell and wouldn’t bathe.
portuguese colonists were bothered by brazilian natives bathing 5-7 times a day, that was their first push to learn native languages only to teach them that bathing reduces your sex drive.
according to the map apparently they got better, i believe it is a cultural vestigial traits from when that territory was under arab rule or smth, and muslims are the most hygienic people in the planet, so it eventually prevailed in modern era with recent scientific discoveries.
Native Americans said the first colonists stank to hell and wouldn’t bathe.
There’s plenty of records from the Islamic world and east Asia saying the same tbh. On one hand, it’s probably a bit exaggerated (only slightly), but on the other hand, western Europe in particular deserves all the bad reputation it gets and then some.
Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, guy who comissioned Taj Mahal, had some European advisors and mercenaries in his service, mostly British, Italian and Portuguese, and commented on them they could maybe become great people if they would wash their asses. Which was pretty shocking comment for this man so i assume they must have really stink especially they weren’t even allowed close to the emperor as per etiquette.
I remember a page in “Endless Holocausts: Mass Death in the History of the United States Empire” that mentioned that a tribe got sick because the Spanish colonizers kept shitting and pissing in a river that was used as drinking water.
Reminds me of a story a comrade told me, in one of the Zapatista territories they saw someone piss in a river and get hit in the back of the head with a shovel once.
Deserved, WHY PISS IN A RIVER
There is literally no reason, I think he learned his lesson lmfao
I saw this and got really excited and clapped my hands but it was too hard and now they hurt
WTF is happening in the Netherlands?
Systematic PFAS and nitrogen poisoning is, I guess
I am never shaking hands with a Dutch person ever again.
Ew

Bossnia 🇧🇦💪👌
Lmao Dutch ‘people’ coping on their little subreddit
The Netherlands more like the “NeverWashesLands”
I remember something like that was posted a few years ago and the Dutch were saying that “Uhm achually this just means we’re more truthfull and everyone else just washes their hands less but they lie unlike us 🤓”
So DankZedong I wash my hands does that mean you don’t?
OK, I assume Australia’s stat’s are probably similar to the UKs, and an uncomfortably high number of men don’t even rinse let alone use soap
Win for Bosnia at 96%
I have always preferred Greek-Turkish-Levantine food
I’m a neo-ottomanist now I guess.
no source = fake
Seems like it’s not fake, per se, but the methodology is highly suspect:
Unfortunately, there are 3 major problems with this survey done in 63 countries in 2015
-
it was conducted differently in each country ( face to face, by phone, or via web survey) which impacts the level of honesty with which people answer the question
-
it ignores the cultural approach to precision and shame on the way respondents answer the question (and not only how they behave).
-
Some countries surveyed only urban people, while other surveyed both urban and rural people. Each country also surveyed different age groups.
When asked if they AUTOMATICALLY wash their hands with water and soap after using the toilette, a Dutch man who would use street urinals like this one [link was dead–I grabbed another image and rehosted on Hexbear] just once per year and always wash his hands with soap otherwise, would most likely answer NO. While a French or an Italian would have the exact same behavior would answer YES to the same question because the notion of AUTOMATICALLY is not perceived the same way in each of those countries.
Also, cultures that are more sensitive to guilt or shame will not have the same level of honesty when answering the question, even anonymously from behind a screen. (Even though shame and guilt will most likely also influence their actual behaviour and not only their answer to the survey, it still pollute the result of the survey)
And that’s another major problem of the survey, as it’s has been done differently in each country. Face to face in some, by phone or on the web in others. And it’s pretty obvious that people will more often be embarrassed by saying the truth when asked face to face or by phone than anonymously from behind a screen
More info in PDF in English about the original survey here
Another link wich is visually easier to read but the country names are written in French (as the rest of the document) and only slides 4 and 9 are relevant for the global results.
So the source is Gallup? I said ‘no source’ because I didn’t see one on the map and I was being lazy.
