      The simplest explanation of Biden’s baffling blindness to how bad this looks is that the President has a master (or masters). There’s someone who commands the President to support Israel, and the President obeys.

      Presumably, after you get sworn in, you get taken to a quiet room where they turn the tape recorders off, and you get introduced to your real boss.

      Conservative Presidents don’t care, because they were planning to disregard the greater good anyway. But Dems in this position have to just make concessions, strive for X, Y and Z while also appeasing their elusive master(s).

      Anyone disagree? Come up with a more plausible explanation. I’d love to hear it.

        There are so many plausible explanations that make more sense than yours, but I’ll happily give you one:

        The US has interest in a strong ally in the Middle East. They have massive companies—literally some of the biggest—that pretty much are “the economy” that all have interest in seeing war happen, because they sell weapons. It’s not about what’s right. It’s about what’s prudent for US interests. Money, power. It’s really not that complicated.

        There isn’t a cOnSPiRaCY here. It’s fucking capitalism and geopolitics. They’re both horrible, murderous games, and the US is at the top of both, but the sands are shifting. You think this is bad? They’ll do much worse if the foundations crumbles beneath them any further. I feel like I bring this up every time someone seems baffled by Biden/democrats supporting Israel. It’s the country that’s in bed with Israel. Not Biden. Trump may seem like he “doesn’t play by the rules,” but that’s just because he doesn’t know them. But his greed and hatred would see him be 10x worse on Palestine. So buckle up, people. It’s all bad.

          AIPAC operates openly it isn’t a conspiracy.

          The original questioner fails to realize that it isn’t after being sworn in that they pledge support for Israel. It is before being sworn in.

            Yeah, you have powerful interests working against you in both the DNC and the RNC, as well as all the [blood] money in politics if you stand out while trying to get into office. Bernie is a soft progressive and the entire DNC rallied to have all candidates voluntarily drop out and put their support behind Biden when it seemed like Bernie might’ve had a chance.

            Going against the grain only really works if it’s an approved version of “against the grain.” Far right politicians are a good example of this. They’re just bootlickers at heart. The further right they go, just the more extreme their bootlicking tendencies become. That’s why the Overton window rarely shifts back to the left. The right can go as far as they want. But move even slightly left of progressive and you’re persona non grata with a huge target placed on your head and you will get fuckin drone struck (metaphorically, I mean. But who knows, maybe even literally).

            There’s a reason we don’t get far left politicians winning elections. They would be Sisyphus. An impossible task with the equivalent of the might of the gods working against you.

          And Biden has been a Zionist since entering Congress. AIPAC probably didn’t even have to pay him. His famous empathy doesn’t extend to Palestiniens (or other people of colour).

      If this is surprising to you, I’m sorry to have to tell you that early every US president has been a war criminal. But the US has been breathing rarified air in the international community for a long, long time. So what happens under these different presidents kinda gets waved away.

    This fuckery is going to cost him the election end this year, and we’ll ALL pay for that for many years if not decades to come.

    So, thank you Biden, in a roundabout way, you’re really just as bad as Trump is. Still wouldn’t vote for him, but dammit If can’t understand protest voters.
