Rising seas and eroding shorelines have now claimed a half-dozen houses in Rodanthe, N.C., in the past four years, as many property owners race to elevate their homes or retreat from the waterfront.
I actually stayed in the house you can see right behind the wreckage in the photo. At high tide the water even there completely surrounded the house even though it sets higher in the dunes. Rodanthe is a fantastic place but the days are numbered.
If anyone wants to visit before it’s gone, Austin’s seafood is right by this location on the other side of the road. It’s fantastic. Even though they’re frozen I highly recommend the gator sausages.
