Toxic fandom when white actors play people of color from reality: 🤷

Toxic fandom when a cartoon character changes to a darker hue or a sea cryptid is less pale: 🤯🤬🧨🔫🗡🚮

There’s a new Superman series out where Lois Lane has a slightly darker skin tone, isn’t there? And, from what I gather, it’s very popular.

A part of me initially felt “Why don’t they just make these characters match their old appearance?” Then I realized, we’ve been recycling the same media properties a hundred times, and they all started in an age when we depicted everyone as being white (and once in a while, had a racially charged stereotype as a token character). So maybe just like some properties get emotionally darker, maybe we can tweak a few to be skintone-darker and not lose anything.

New Lois does seem pretty hot to me.

Oh, is this the thread where we get angry at being reminded that black people exist? Cool, cool.

I’m skipping it because it’s a Netflix adaptation, and they have a history of just being awful…

Didn’t they turn an evil character (possibly dracula servant or something) black and Muslim and it was considered one the best character in the show or is it another show ?
