News@lemmy.world•Proton CEO warns global age verification push will mean "the death of anonymity online"English
13·3 hours agoI’m glad someone else sees it. I feel like I’m taking crazy pills every day lately. People don’t give a single shit, will minimize the danger and do anything they can to give up their rights, time and time again.
A few of us see it, sadly too few to matter.

16·2 days agoWith how fucking slow windows has gotten on my work PC with all the copilot bullshit, I’m pretty sure MS is doing the same thing. No proof, just a painfully slow machine after getting all the AI updates…
I hate having that machine in my house, on my network.
Somewhat different motivations though I’d say.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•At what point does a person become an "adult"?English
4·4 days agoWell said. At this point in my life I can say I am an adult, but I can’t say when it happened. It was just a dawning realization one day, that was oh, “I’m the adult now.”

11·7 days agoI mean, gotta start somewhere. I too would like to see more direct action in play but we’re trying to motivate nations here, tens or hundreds of millions of people.
Take no kings, I get that it’s been toothless, but it built a large following and the next one is calling for action. It probably won’t work, probably won’t be enough, but it will build momentum, and the next gets more, the next more still. This is obviously US focused (I’m American but this shit has gone global).
It took them a very long time to infiltrate the governments, this has been going on for decades. We won’t be able to solve it in a weekend. It’s going to take time and hard work to fix this shit.

Technology@lemmy.world•Goodbye device ownership, and the last vestiges of free speech will die with this bill as well.English
83·7 days agoIf this thread is any indication, we’re cooked. If this many people are willing to give the government the benefit of the doubt, after what we’re dealing with…
This will not be benign, it will seem innocent at first, but we’ll have given up yet another seemingly simple thing that will eventually be used against us.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•With Linux, are you using secure boot?English
2·10 days agoNo, everything I have is connected to the internet anyway so has far more easily compromised vectors. If I had any data sensitive enough I would not trust any security other than physical with it. I assume with physical access, a motivated enough attacker could gain access, there’s loopholes in everything.
So, if I had that sort of data, it would be on an offline machine, no wireless, never connected to a network. I would only trust it in so far as I could guarantee I am the only one who can access it.

I mean, sorry if I misread your intentions, but your phrasing in such a thread in response to the OP appears to make a statement. You are also aware that the people cheerleading this war are echoing exactly what you said, in essentially the exact same words.
No need to be a dick.
They can be very useful and a lot of fun to interact with, but I think of them like hard drugs. You better sure as shit know what you are dealing with because you might think you are in control, until you are homeless, friendless and screaming at people on the street.
Seriously, they take a strong mind to deal with, they are better manipulators than any human I’ve come across. They do it with sycophancy, every idea and concept is some new truth you alone discovered, and the world needs to know about right now! You are so special and unseen after all…
