Nah. It means you are forced into things without your consent. The world isn’t always going to ask if you want something or not. It’d be unreasonable to expect it to. But you should ask for consent before surgically removing part of someone’s dick

Really well argued and explained, I hope people read and don’t just reflexively downvote.
They’re only worth that if people buy the shares
I definitely recommend it! Have to be very careful about staying safe, though. People don’t take injuries seriously enough. But it’s great exercise and very rewarding
Guitar: as a kid I just thought it’d be awesome to shred. Now I mostly play acoustic fingerstyle, but shred some. Interest has ebbed and flowed over the years, but been playing forever.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu: I wanted a challenge and to get good at something new. It’s hard, but I like it and just keep coming back. Been doing it for a couple years and am a blue belt.
Hiking: did it as a kid, now I do it with my wife who pushes me to hike more than I would otherwise which is good
Tech stuff: coding, piracy, stuff like that. Dad was in IT and taught me to look for solutions with tech. Never stopped. I’m not a fantastic coder, but use it for work and also to solve personal challenges, enter piracy.
Sounds like a night terror. If it’s just that, then it isn’t a health issue. But sleep apnea is actually serious, and you should definitely see a doctor about it. Plus, once you clear that issue up, you’ll sleep better and will feel better overall.

It’s genuinely crazy to me that people don’t use the OC. Not using it creates such a huge amount of needless ambiguity
I didn’t realize how cheap the big hdds had gotten. Definitely looking into 2 bays.
You might be right. The Synology products look really good. I didn’t see that they actually have a sub-$400 4-bay NAS… DS423. Not sure if it’ll meet my performance needs. But the $600 4 bay doesn’t look too bad either really.
Amazing. You don’t think that a system for individualized pricing would take demographics into account? Brilliant! You should take your thesis on how demographics don’t affect consumers’ willingness to pay to every ad agency on earth. They’ll be riveted. Or is it that you don’t think race and SES are correlated? In that case you should hurry to publish a book on economics before someone steals your idea.
It’d probably be the opposite. I bet they’d charge more to specific demographics - and common convenience store beverage brands would probably cost more for poorer people.
Plus, without controls, they’d probably end up charging different ethnic groups more for specific goods - they’d probably obfuscate it somehow, like to charge white people more for something they’d probably say they were doing it because you’re a model train enthusiast or something. Or like “our consultants have told us that Tejano music fans are willing to pay a premium for coca cola” and so they jack up the price of coca cola for Mexicans without saying it’s because they’re mexican.
But yeah, I bet poorer people who have less free time would be “willing” to pay more for essentials because they often have less choice in where they get groceries. In other words you could force poor people with fewer options to accept jacked up prices whereas non-poor people may have the luxury of shopping around or paying someone else to get their groceries.
Also, if poor people were charged less there’d be a whole industry of personal grocery shoppers who’d get discounted prices for rich people and charge them a service fee in exchange.
If the strawman fits, burn it when you come to it. That’s what my grandpappy always used to say
“Ancient Wisdom” applied stupidly can indeed lead to shit takes. In this case, you’re criticizing this politician because… he didn’t give halloween handouts proportional to his income? His halloween candy bars weren’t a sufficiently significant sacrifice? And then you’re knocking this commenter because their opinion that your take is shit means they are blinded by the “systems of exploitation” they create as an engineer and their lack courage to share your moral views about the virtue of dispensing halloween candy proportional to ones wealth? You’re like a charicature of a cringey philosophy major - and I was a philosophy major. Stop pontificating and think logically about your argument.
Look at Protestants in America “interpreting” their “ancient wisdom” in all sorts of wacky ways. The Baptists’ “ancient wisdom” tells them they’ll go to hell if they dance. The pentacostals’ “ancient wisdom” says that the Holy Spirit will possess you and make you speak gibberish if you believe hard enough. The “christian science” people’s ancient wisdom tells them to pray cancer away - and if they fail to, it’s because they aren’t righteous enough.
Just because you can loosely relate some “ancient wisdom” to a situation doesn’t mean that it’s applicable or that you’re correct.
My wisdom would tell me that this guy’s halloween handouts don’t really say anything about him other than either that he: just likes giving out halloween candy, sees it as a smart political move, or both.
Oh for sure. I only meant in the US where MIT is located. But it’s already a useful breakthrough for everyone in civilized countries
Now make mammograms not $500 and not have a 6 month waiting time and make them available for women under 40. Then this’ll be a useful breakthrough
But wait, Republicans, what about all the welfare queens with like 10 Democrat party welfare sponsored kids? Are they now the most powerful voting block? Or did they never exist?
Same here. The sheer 800ft. Drops on either sides of of the 2-4ft wide ridge with people coming both ways was a no from me.
Also even just on the way up the the first landing (the like 500sqft flat area where you can rest) with that 1.5ft wide ledge getting up to it and the rope with 300ft sheer drops- I had a frustrated dad wearing flip flops and a 2 year old kid in a baby backpack rushing by everyone while people were heading down too. Shit’s wild.
Hikes like half dome and angels’ landing are super dangerous whether or not people die frequently on them. You’re not stupid to do these hikes if you prepare for them, but even if you’re prepared, there is still risk.
These hikes can get crowded even with the ticket system, and more and more people rush up these trails to get the shot for their Insta or whatever. Two-way crowds of impatient tourists on these narrow ledges and steep scrambles/climbs are a real issue and even a prepared hiker could get unlucky.
Not to mention other hazards like incliment weather like in this case. Half-dome is a unique weather risk during that final climb because it is just rock. Rock worn extra smooth and made dusty by hikers’ boots. If it rains, that dust turns to silty mud and you now have nature’s most majestic slip-n-slide.
The national parks make nature accessible, and because it’s accessible, people underestimate it and don’t respect it like they should.
Not everyone with sense. The question was if Harris is electable, if the dems would rally behind her instead of infighting, and if there was enough time to spin up a campaign. Biden was previously electable, had the majority of dems supporting him, and didn’t need to spin up a campaign.
Now, in hindsight, Kamala was the right choice. She’s been great and people have responded well. But that was by no means a sure thing
