  • I have several Tiles. Beyond helping to find where I’ve misplaced something in the house, I managed to lose my wallet once. I flagged it as missing on Tile and started waiting. I didn’t have any high expectations as it was the dead of Canadian winter and I expected the battery to have died completely out in the cold but no I got a ping a couple days later. A short search in the area and we found it.

I have also put tiles on my bicycles and luggage in case they ever get stolen but so far this has never happened.

  • Sure. Then you run the election and if anybody else in the area wants to run in the same party as the person who left then the party can put them on the ballot. If not, then no candidate for that party. Don’t drop somebody in from elsewhere. Pretty simple. Just pick a time period that a person needs to have lived in a riding (say, one full election cycle) before running to represent the area.

If the person wins the election and moves (other than to government housing in Ottawa so they can do their job) then they give up their seat.

  • I was in Japan buying a souvenir for my mom. I had settled on a really nice hanging wall scroll with a landscape view. The salesman packages it up, and I realise that this is going into checked baggage on my flight home and is kind of fragile. I mention this and the guy goes and digs up all sorts of additional packaging, bubble wrap, and twine and ties it up so securely that he cut his fingers on the twine. The man injured himself so that I could get his product safely into an airplane.

That was 19 years ago, and I will never be in that shop again, but I will also never forget that.
