It’s far, far less than Israel has killed. Before Oct 7th, it was about ten to one Palestinians killed for every Israeli killed. Now it’s much much worse and getting worse everyday. Or does that not matter?

Now, can we say Hamas is bad? Of course we can, but by whatever metrics we use to call out Hamas as being bad, Israel is at least ten times worse.

You can’t bring in the amount of children Hamas has killed, and at the same time ignore that Is real has killed way more, and expect people to take you seriously. And if you want to try to play the “who shot first” game, that was also Israel, forcing its way into the land that they now occupy. And every square inch they have invaded since.

I loved it when it came out, and was excited for the series when I heard about it. But my family did not have cable so I couldn’t watch the series until years later, luckily there were still 7 years of the show left.

Edit to add, I don’t disagree with you about the general public forgetting about it.

I love Stargate and the shows. I get the criticism, and don’t much disagree with it, love Stargate anyway.

I get the idea of the turn off the brain thing, but I think it’s more about being willing to jump into another reality. Yeah, it’s an action movie light on story, but honestly a lot of critically acclaimed dramas are just as light on story in order to get to the drama. There’s nothing writing with that and sometimes it works. I also like a lot of them.

Beginners, in general, can’t necessarily read a long list of things and figure out which one of the things applies to their question. So simply closing as a dupe without any guidance is not good.

And even simply closing and marking as a dupe is fine. But that’s not what the person I’m responding to and I are talking about. Having someone come in and shame a beginner and then ban their account is not mentioned in your response, but is the shitty behavior that needs to change.

Unfortunately, this is how it has always been, at least for me over the last thirty+ years of programming. It has been getting better, but there are still a bunch of old school assholes who seem to think that being shamed and learning everything through personal trial and error is the best way to learn because that is how they learned.

Look at how many Palestinians have been killed vs Israelis. Just look at the numbers. What kind of psychopath is willing to kill even more people who have been being killed and oppressed for almost a century?

If this is a justification you accept for this level of violence from Isreal, then you can’t argue against anything Hamas has done without being a hypocrite.

And on a purely emotionless evaluation of the numbers, this kind of response from Isreal hasn’t worked for 80 years, but they keep killing innocent people. Maybe it’s time to try something else. Unless of course that’s not actually the reason.

Like with most things, consent and intent matter. I went out on Halloween when I was a kid and got free candy, so why is it bad if I break in and steal other people’s candy?

I have sympathy for the Palestinian and Israeli civilians that are being murdered by both sides. Since 2008, Israel has killed significantly more Palestinians than vice versa https://www.ochaopt.org/data/casualties, 6,000 Palestinian deaths to 300 Israeli deaths.

It’s the “deserve” part of your comment that I’m having trouble with reconciling when the amount of deaths and violent oppression has been so unbalanced against Palestinians. Yeah, Hamas needs to face consequences, but that’s not really what’s happening or what’s going to be happening. It’s going to be civilians that will suffer the most and Hamas will be fine when it’s all done.

It’s not hard to see, as horrible as Hamas is, how they can get recruits and support for their regime and how this escalated to this point. I don’t support what happened in any way, but I can see how things lead up to this.

And I’ve seen people say that Hamas fucked it up for Palestinians because now they lost the sympathy. Which is hard to not see as flawed when the sympathy hasn’t helped Palestinians for over half a century of violent oppression.
