Hmm. Initially I confused this with New Brunswick, where the Liberals are in government. Currently in Nova Scotia, the Liberals are in a battle with the NDP for Official Opposition status. So, it’s unlikely they’ll become government.

I’m curious if the Nova Scotia NDP has made a similar promise. (checks…) Well, seems that the Nova Scotia NDP has not made a commitment to this. That’s a shame, but regardless, if I was a Nova Scotia voter, I’d likely vote for the NDP anyway, since they generally seem more left wing than the Liberals.
Anyone know when the Nova Scotia election will happen?

It was shipped overseas from an unofficial dealer, since Fairphone itself no longer deals with the Fairphone 2, and it no longer provides replacement items for the Fairphone 2.
I installed LineageOS on it. It worked great. But recently the battery was showing signs of decay. I looked for a replacement, but nowhere could I find anything. The phone now is just a paperweight.
Granted, it was released almost 8 years ago. But, I think it’s a shame that it’s no longer supported. I do feel that, if replacements were even more feasible, that this phone of mine could have continued for even longer.
I have a Fairphone 2, and it has a headphone jack. However, newer phones don’t seem to include this, since most people now use Earbuds. https://shop.fairphone.com/tws-earbuds

Google trial didn’t know if Firefox is a browser or search engineEnglish38·2 years agoWhen asked about a perceived ignorance in computers, the judge proclaimed, “I’m not ignorant about computers! In fact, just last week I finished Space Quest, and I’m now getting through Leisure Suit Larry!” The judge’s report, written using WordPerfect 5.1, is expected to be released soon.

There are still safety concerns regarding nuclear power, which only increase as our reliance upon it increases. Investing in renewable energy makes more sense.

MarkG_108@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Young climate activist tells Greenpeace to drop ‘old-fashioned’ anti-nuclear stanceEnglish37·2 years agoThe European Commission is being sued by environmental campaigners over a decision to include gas and nuclear in an EU guide to “green” investments.
Eight national and regional Greenpeace organisations including France, Germany and EU office in Brussels are asking the court to rule the inclusion of gas and nuclear invalid.
I totally support Greenpeace in this. Neither nuclear nor gas should be considered a “green” investment. Ia Aanstoot, the “18 year old climate activist”, is wrong to support the European Commission’s stance on this.
MarkG_108@lemmy.cato World News@lemmy.world•Young climate activist tells Greenpeace to drop ‘old-fashioned’ anti-nuclear stanceEnglish2·2 years agoWhich means she opposes what Ia Anstoot is saying. Thunberg does not view nuclear as a renewable in and of itself, and thus, like Greenpeace, she opposes EU Commission’s decision to include nuclear power in its classification system for sustainable finance (link).

They are speaking of the need to not only raise property taxes, but also to implement new revenue measures. The article gave a link to where this is all outlined: https://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2023/ex/bgrd/backgroundfile-238626.pdf
MarkG_108@lemmy.cato Toronto@lemmy.ca•Toronto to explore municipal sales tax as part of plan to tackle 'unprecedented financial crisis'English1·2 years agoSolely relying on property tax increases isn’t sustainable. The city is considering increases here too, but it needs further revenues. Deputy Mayor Jennifer McKelvie stated,
the revenue tools currently available to us will not fill the void alone. It is not sustainable to continue using property taxes to fund provincial and federal responsibilities
Along with further revenue tools, she feels the city needs more direct funding from both the province and the feds.
MarkG_108@lemmy.cato Toronto@lemmy.ca•Toronto to explore municipal sales tax as part of plan to tackle 'unprecedented financial crisis'English1·2 years agoYou’re suggesting a municipal income tax? I doubt that would come to fruition. Again, there is a rebate for those in lower incomes, which I believe addresses your initial concern.
MarkG_108@lemmy.cato Toronto@lemmy.ca•Toronto to explore municipal sales tax as part of plan to tackle 'unprecedented financial crisis'English12·2 years agoImportant stuff like basic groceries are exempt. Also, there is a tax rebate for those of lower incomes, so its affect is primarily on those who have greater wealth. What’s being discussed is a one percent addition; hence, a penny from moneyed spendthrifts for integrity of services within the city. Sounds good to me.
MarkG_108@lemmy.cato Toronto@lemmy.ca•Toronto to explore municipal sales tax as part of plan to tackle 'unprecedented financial crisis'English21·2 years ago“a one per cent sales tax applied to existing HST/GST” is fine by me. The current HST doesn’t apply to important stuff like basic groceries. And there is a tax rebate on the HST for those of lower incomes (I get this rebate throughout the year). Also, I certainly am not a spendthrift. Reckless consumerism is not my thing. So, let’s get the city in order by taxing those with wealth who engage in reckless consumerism a bit more.
