Some of our neighbours have received help with food from somewhere before, and it was all stuff that had reached its “best before” (parasta ennen) date. So I’m not sure if they somehow got around the liability thing.
Imo the best before date is mostly bullshit anyway, its a date until which the food’s quality is guaranteed by the manufacturer, but will still be edible for a while after the date has passed.
It is in my opinion absolute insanity that this food is thrown away, it should be possible for food that has just passed this date to be donated to the needy.
