Does accessing your router page via caddy work when you’re actually on your home network and not accessing it via wireguard? Have you tried a different web browser to rule out your LLM suggested cookie issues entirely?

There is some way to do it using like, group chats and their hosted services, but there is no self hosted server based persistent chat.
Honestly, spinning up the Synapse stack (Matrix) from their Helm documentation wasn’t too difficult. I have not tested the voice chat super thoroughly yet, but the text chat is working great. The hardest part was formatting some of the config files correctly so it would use them properly.

Self hosting TS6 is as simple as running the file and port forwarding setup on your router. I have not tried using it with anyone else yet, as I was not satisfied with the lack of persistent text chat, but setting it up is pretty easy.
If you’re familiar with Docker they have a Docker compose file example as well.

I got 3 Seagate Exos X16 14 TB drives for only $140 each (refurbished) at the end of 2022. I’ve got them in TrueNAS as a zfs array and they work great.
Mine were the SATA version, which isn’t currently in stock. The SAS version of my drives go for $299 now. The SATA X14 version is $350.
So prices for the same refurbished drives are more than double what they were like 3.5 years ago, so they really are expensive! I paid like $10 per TB, but they’re all $15-25 per TB now! I was looking for drives for a friend who wants to get started self hosting, and I was shocked by how much refurb drives had gone up.
This is all from https://serverpartdeals.com/ by the way, I’m assuming that’s the site you mean too.

Correct. 32 people connected to voice simultaneously, but there isn’t persistent text chat. So really, only 32 users at a time, at all. The lack of text made me set up a Matrix homeserver instead.

It’s on Steam, I have it.

I’m struggling a bit. I got the server up and text chat is working great, but the documentation for getting voice calls working is pretty hard to follow.
My searching around has failed to find a more step by step guide for modifying the gigantic sample continuwuity.toml file. It’s so unwieldy, and it feels impossible to know if there are some additional settings that need to be configured that I’m simply missing due to the length of the file.
Any tips, tricks, or guides you’re willing would be appreciated!

Technically self hostable, but you need to compile the client from source to point to your instance and last I checked voice calls don’t work on the current release version. It’s not federated.

Yeah I’m really hoping they just add a button in the client to connect to a custom server (like how Bitwarden works), as well as actually update the self hosting images and instructions. I’ve been keeping tabs on them for almost a year now, and still no progress on that front.

I’ve been following Stoat, their documentation states that self hosted voice channels don’t work (I think their official server does though), and also you have to recompile their client software to hard code the link to your server.
The additions are to highlight the parts of our community that are typically underrepresented, more vulnerable, and facing higher levels of discrimination (i.e. trans people, intersex people, and queer people of color).
It also helps weed out the “LGB without the T” assholes. As a trans woman, seeing just the rainbow flag flying somewhere often makes me think “is this actually a safe place, or do they hate me more than the place next door with no flag?” Usually that isn’t the case, but the doubt exists, and it sucks.

If you don’t mind me asking, which state are you in? I’m 99% sure a court order name change certificate paired with a birth certificate should be sufficient to get a Real ID compliant ID in any state, even the ones especially hostile to trans people.
Edit: side note, I love your profile picture

Your birth certificate with your deadname combined with your court order for your name change legally satisfies the Real ID requirements. I’ve had a Real ID from 2 different states, and have had 0 issues when presenting that combination, along with my social security card for extra insurance.
You do have to specifically choose the Real ID paperwork at the DMV though, they can have different forms available for Real ID vs basic driver’s license.

I have a Real ID. It has my correct gender despite my birth certificate not matching. You just need to show your birth certificate (yes it outs you to the DMV worker) and your certificate of name change, along with your proof of residence in the state you’re getting it in. I’ve never had a driver’s license that wasn’t a Real ID.
Passports are currently fucked, it’s true. You can probably get one with the correct name since it’s changed with the SSA, but it might have the incorrect gender, though I don’t know the specifics of that situation currently. I know some people have been able to legally fight back and get issued a correct passport under the current regime so it is potentially possible.
As for the far right and their goals, I’m fairly confident that we’re far off from that particular goal, in certain parts of the country at least. I’m hoping that we can avert that entirely, but plenty of shitty state governments are working towards it unfortunately.

If you live in a state that lets you update your state issued ID (driver’s license or otherwise), your birth certificate doesn’t really come up particularly often. I changed my name and ID a few years ago, the only time my birth certificate has been relevant outside of the paperwork to get my name changed with SSA, my ID, passport, bank, etc. has been starting a new job.
My birth state does allow it to be changed, but it requires getting some paperwork notarized and completed by my doctor, and I have not gotten around to it yet as it doesn’t really come up often.
Tl;dr: if you live somewhere that lets you self ID gender for your driver’s license, getting your name changed and selecting the correct gender marker on your photo ID does result in mismatched documents, but it isn’t usually relevant nor does it come up regularly.
Surely the ideal beach body is just crab.

Summit you can swipe right while in comments to go back. You can swipe left on a comment or post to vote. It’s extremely similar to Sync was on Reddit or the Lemmy version.

Capone is why we have expiration dates on milk!

Fast storage is relative. It works flawlessly on a budget SATA SSD from like 10 years ago. It would probably have a 1-2 minute load time on a SATA spinning disk, but I have not used a system with a spinning disk boot drive in years.
My best suggestion would be to try enabling web sockets and see if it changes anything. I did find a post for a similar issue that someone was having with a different reverse proxy, but I’m not sure if it’ll be helpful.
