Well to be honest both of these tend to artificially bloat the lenght of their videos. Bellular in my opionion just does a better job in that sense with usually repeating related news or by providing more industry insights, structured format and nuanced takes. YongYea tends to go much harder with the commentary and speculation.
As one of the developers on Alien Blackout I was also in the receiving end of Yong Yeas takes once. He went on an on about how the game would be full of microtransactions, compared it to Diablo Immortal etc. The truth was that the game is/was basically a spin-off, premium mobile game with no ads or microtransactions by developers who would have also loved to see Alien Isolation 2. This kinda took the mask off from many Youtube influencers for me and made me question a lot of their speculation.
In my opinion Game theory has degraded quite a bit, partly because they grew too big and started bumping out more and more content on multiple channels which in my opinion saturated quite a bit. It doesn’t help that there exists now long form video essays that go much more indepth in certain aspects of games and other forms of entertainment. MatPat leaving did also leave huge void that they can probably never fully replace.
Jimquisition or now rebranded as ‘Stephanie Sterling’ channel has also degraded quite a bit albeit there are some highs here and there. I liked their game coverage and loved the “Squirty Plays” and “Jimpressions” where they played and made fun of numerous sloppy games but they seem to no longer make them (maybe twitch? but I don’t watch Twitch). But Jimquisition has become quite repetitive with its ramblings and I don’t really care all that much about any of the LGBTQIA+ or wrestling stuff. Still following the channel though for those better videos that do occasionally pop up.
Similarly YongYea is one of those channels I’ve started to watch less. It’s one of those channels that try really hard to please the audience by telling them what they want to hear instead of having more nuanced takes. Not only that many of his videos are overly long while providing very little substance. Nowdays I prefer Bellular News and Second wind more, and If I ever watch YongYea i’ll ususally just jump a head in the video immediately when I hear him start rambling instead of focusing on actual news.
This may be hot take but Hbomberguy has degraded not necessarily in the quality but in the quantity department. I’d much more prefer smaller more concises videos more frequently than 1-3 hour long mega essays that get realeased like every other year. While many of these can be bangers I am not sure if they’re overall worth the wait. These could at least be split to multiple smaller videos to spread out the content a bit and make them easier to digest. It’s also huge risk if the topic is not something that doesn’t interest you all that much. Similar could be said about ActionButton a.k.a Tim Rogers who took more than 2 years? to make 9 hour video about La Noire? Which I can’t be bothered to watch because it’s age restricted in youtube which would require me to log in.
I disagree with the Kurzegast thing, I think their videos are still as good as ever if not better. Honestly would have been disapointed with them if they would have taken some sort of A.I doomer view instead of a more balanced take. In fact I would love them to go more indepth with A.I especially when it comes to symbolic A.I and expert systems, instead of this generative A.I sillyness that is going on.
Not in the typical sense, but I do use mods that may alter the vanilla experience to be less grindy.
For example in Sacred 2 remaster I use mod that doubles the quantity of enemies making it more challenging but also more challenging.
In Incredible adventures of Van Helsing I made set and godlike items drop from special mobs with 1/10th of chance of epic items or something as without mods you’d have to grind for keys to open offline lootboxes.
I do also like exploits that may trivialize the game. Especially in rpgs where they may allow mevto create ridiculously powerful builds.

52·4 months agoFor my understanding its up to Valve to handle support for Windows unless you mean releasing games on steam. Attempts to block Steam would probably violate anti-trust laws and cause massive PR backlash.
Yeah, I’ve replayed TQ1 and Grim dawn numerous times so by trying out different builds I can probably get 15-20 hours from this version alone.

31·6 months agoThis is still very early in consoles lifespan.
Wii sold plenty of consoles but ended up being disapointment to many due to lack of hardcore games and lackluster sales on 3rd party titles.
It’ll be interesting to see how the sales will progress in long term. To satisfy shareholders Nintendo needs to capture a lot more audience than hardcore fans and tech enthuiasts.

Playstation 5 has plenty of good games but only handful of exclusives. Many of these games are also available for PS4 and PC as well.

4·6 months agoWould guess this is more or less similar to PS5 with backwards compatibility with PS4, PS5 games. PS5 pro didnt really do a big splash so PS6 give bigger uprgrade for those looking for one.
Making those game libraries accessible on portable device would also be quite impressive. (Not quite Steam deck level but still.)

8·6 months agoMany still play on Playstation 4 and suprising amount of games still get released for both.
Its also funny that in Fighting game locals most games are still played on PS4 with Tekken 8 being pretty much the only one requiring PS5.
Bought it as the EA price was cheap enough to take a chance and early reviews where positive enough to signal that the game isnt completely broken.
Got maybe hour in this morning and had fun. Game performed pretty well with RTX 3070 albeit dropped settings to high to get framerate to around 80-100 with 1080p.

3·6 months agoBought the PS5 version at launch which is something I dont do with many games. Been fairly happy with the game but it does look a lot like Capcom is moving quickly towards enshittification with this much monetization.
The game is no world, but I do like it a lot more that Rise. There’s a lot more to explore, endemic life is more rich and combat feels more weighty.
Might give rise another go on pc later tough. Got bored with it on Switch near the end of high rank base game.

Games@lemmy.world•Monster Hunter Wilds Endgame Expansion Moved Up as Game Suffers From 'Soft' SalesEnglish
2·6 months agoOddly enough world base game felt fairly long. Took me quite a while to get to the high rank and even longer to get to the final boss.
Honestly lack of automatic traversal and bunch of busywork made it a lot more easier to get distracted and explore. Lack of artian weapons made it more rewarding to farm weapons made from different monsters.
Maybe the game just got too streamlined with Rise and wilds. Focus shifted too much towards making fights more of a spectacle and add in bunch of unnecessary narrative.
