The one good thing about the Trump presidency will hopefully be a bunch of people waking up to bad things that are happening only because Trump is doing it instead of Biden.

Hopefully the Trump presidency is a wake up call in the importance of privacy. As we slowly move towards fascism, privacy becomes more important than ever.

There’s porn on here. Lemmynsfw.com is actually the second most populous instance irrc (or top 3?). Just got to convince people to post to it. But then we got the same problem of trying to convince people to do that lol.
Andor was so good it made me sad when it was over that other Star Wars media wasn’t this good.
I believe it. Coming in blind having never having seen the original probably helped a lot.
Going to give an old example and a new example.
I remember liking the Aeon Flux movie. Don’t remember too much about it, but I remember enjoying it, and favorably comparing it to Ultraviolet which came out around the same time. Recently I heard someone bring it up in a podcast as a terrible movie and it turns out it’s pretty universally panned lol.
A more recent example is The Watchers. I thought it was pretty good and kept my interest the whole time, but seems pretty middling from reviews. A lot of people especially didn’t like the ending, which I guess was kind of sudden, but still alright imo. Not noteworthy in being especially bad or anything.
I thought it did some cool stuff with making the Facehuggers scary again and the
Hybrid alien was cool. Although apparently that was a reference to an alien movie I haven’t seen yet or something?
Anyway, I really liked it as well.

True. Paying attention to our online footprint, keeping privacy technology and encryption available will be a huge part of it. No more “if you aren’t doing something wrong then you don’t need to worry about it” or whatever people said that Snowden tried to point out was dumb.
Oh it’s 100% going to suck for sure. It will be hard and difficult and painful. But our ancestors fought for unions when unions were illegal, and union busting didn’t just mean saying “stop” or “you’re all fired”, it meant hiring private mercenaries to spray bullets into crowds and beat unarmed people with sticks. Women got the right to vote with protests and were often arrested for vandalism, arson, and all sorts of shit they did during them (and for prohibition, which I know didn’t really work, but hey, they got that amendment in anyway).

Two of the developers are scary communist tankies. And no, I don’t think software can be right wing or left wing. Maybe if it’s centralized, like X, but the developers of Lemmy can’t interfere with Lemmy servers they don’t admin, and it’s open source (lots of other people contribute to the Lemmy source code at this point and so would be able to spot things added in).
Personally, I think the right way to advertise other competitors on the fediverse isnt to fear monger about the developers, but to say what features the alternatives have that might be good. Also, it is nice to have competitors, so also just to advertise based on the availability of alternative options, since it is nice to have those just in case.
