I swear… that guy lives in a cartoon.
I swear… that guy lives in a cartoon.
Since this discussion has erupted into an ad hominem insult-fest, I’m shutting this part of it down and stepping away to avoid being accused of bias.
The slap fight ends here.
Fair, I think I took this from a different perspective. Apologies.
I put the blame where it lies. with the over ninety million registered voters that didn’t vote.
This is not up for debate.
And that is because, of those ninety million registered voters that didn’t vote- it’s safe to assume that among them lies the difference between Trump destroying democracy from within the Oval Office and Trump rotting behind bars a long distance away from it. I was among those that chose to stop him from destroying democracy- I voted. If you didn’t, do don’t get to say this. Is that virtue signing? I suppose that all comes down to whether or not you consider doing the bare minimum it takes to protect democracy.
And as I said already, this isn’t a boast. This isn’t how I’d want it to be. But, this IS how it is. So… contrary to what seems to make you feel better, there are no virtues to be found here.
I see things for what they are, not what I’d want them to be, and not what makes me feel better about believing.
But if it help you to think I people like me are to blame, I suppose it doesn’t really matter anymore- does it?
That’s my point.
This has nothing to do with being a mod and everything to do with rational thinking.
I said nothing that I am happy about having had said. I just see the forest for the trees. Accepting the responsibility of facing reality has nothing to do with letting fascism take control.
In fact, if you were paying attention, I voted. Along with all the others that knew what would happen if we didn’t. So in that- WE tried to stop this- did you?
Let’s qualify this more accurately. It’s not lost. It’s “lost.”
Let’s all keep an eye out for the shiny new upgrades to putin’s war crimes in Ukraine.
The biggest problem with AI is the damage it’s doing to human culture.
Do we keep telling this to everyone because there are actually people that don’t know this?
And you tried to use history to prove how your choice to do nothing at all nets positive results.
Think about THAT for a second.
You’re free to disagree. I’m not here to argue. The fault is mine for trying to appeal to a reason that clearly doesn’t appear to exist.
Enjoy your afternoon.
If people are staying home the fault is with the candidate.
I’m going to try and appeal to whatever reason I hope you may possess by saying that under normal circumstances- you’d be absolutely correct. And that there’d be no sound logic in anyone disagreeing with what you are saying, because definitively, without argument- that is how elections work.
However-
The key term that differentiates your point from being a reasonable one is- UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
It was made VERY clear what we were going to be facing had we not done the bare minimum and just voted- despite how we felt about the quality of the candidate. In short: this was NOT normal circumstances. We were told what was going to happen. And when Someone like that tells you what they intend- you believe them. And those of us that used our vote as a shield to stand agent them, told you, every one of you- what was going to happen if you didn’t help hold the line.
As I said- under normal circumstances, their job absolutely IS to put up a good candidate. I don’t disagree with this one but- But it is OUR job to use our votes in these circumstances to protect our home from being invaded by someone that has told us the extend of damage they intend to inflict upon it.
So, If you consciously chose to abstain from voting because Harris didn’t meet the quota of perfection required to satisfy your expectations-
then you stood aside and helped to allow it this into our house. There really is no other way to look at it.
And lastly, if you can say with a straight face and honesty in your heart that liberals aren’t that upset by what’s happening, then I’d have to say that it seems with you, that the finger is pointed ever outward-
And that might just be the catalyst of the ignorance we currently face.
Here lies the problem. People think that because something once worked- it’ll always work.
Perhaps we should use swords the next time we’re at war? I mean, they were very effective in the 1300’s, right?
Protests don’t work anymore. We’re way beyond anyone listening to gathered crowds.
Yeah. These people don’t even deserve to have their story told. They should just vanish in silence.
I’m pretty sure we all know how everyone would vote if given the chance to do it again. I only wish those that didn’t would have the humility it takes to admit they made a huge mistake.
Again, it really looks good on paper. In practice- it does little.
Sadly, this is the correct answer. Protests really only look effective on paper, (or social media) however, gathering in protest is only ever going to work if those they protesting against, actually care to listen with an open mind.
There is no way the current administration has any plans to listen to anyone that disagrees with their attempts to personally own America.
They’ll autopilot directly to Russia.
