  • Watched the first half of the video, then got bored and annoyed enough to comment

Okay so I guess I kinda get where he’s coming from, in that people in American politics care about the state of america, and less about other countries (Afghanistan/Iraq in this case), but he is kinda taking it to the extreme and exaggerating the actual opinions people have on the value of the lives of people in other countries.

The thing I really don’t get at all in the video is him calling better welfare and healthcare for Americans ‘treats’, and that Americans will ‘do anything for their treats’. Like, is wanting to help our own people bad now? Is getting universal healthcare, a better social safety net, things that are standard in the rest of the developed world and Europe, just optional treats? Maybe we should also care about the Americans America has fucked over too, if we care so much about the value of every life.

I think he also just overstates how much platner and vets in general are mass murders and revel in the blood, and for a decent amount of the video all he was doing was pointing at platner being in the military and calling him a mass murdering psychopath in various ways. That’s a harder/longer argument I don’t have time for rn tho

  • Depends on the person, a lot of people justify it to themselves that they won’t necessarily have to kill anyone. Recruiters also obviously don’t always tell people the truth of what they will actually be doing and just want you to sign on.

There also legitimately is a lot more to the military than being a front-line trigger puller, there is a massive supply, maintenance, etc. system that employs people with practically zero chance of them ever having to kill someone.

Tbh I have personally considered joining in such a role (particularly aircraft maintenance) but decided to pursue a civilian career.
