Not usually. The main thing for lab equipment is that it is controlling hardware. So you are often using proprietary drivers for custom hardware. Wine can’t handle drivers and for security reasons can’t get low level hardware access.

They can’t make them non-reflective enough to not interrupt really deep observing. Also, that just shifts the problem around. If they are absorbing in the visible, they will likely have huge amounts of blackbody radiation in IR, sub/millimeter, and radio. You would need to make a satellite out of dark matter to not interrupt astronomy.

Man, I just went to a good seminar today on finding habitable exoplanets that emphasized that we currently need ground based telescopes, because it is still impractical to make 30+ meter telescopes in space and would be very expensive, even if could be done. But progress is just launching a bunch of bullshit into orbit to avoid real investment in infrastructure like fiber and other telecommunication lines.

Sorry to nerd out, but this reminds me of a senior grad student when I was a first year physics grad student. He was talking about the “order of magnitude” class that some professor was able to set up as a fun class for fulfilling his teaching requirements. It involved calculating or estimating order of magnitude values and putting them in units of something you can relate to (e.g. distance in terms of football fields, or your height, energy in an hour of air conditioning, etc.). In the spirit of this class, this guy used his dick for length and then came up with some other size unit to convert to for homework he had to hand in. The diameter of the Milky Way galaxy is 5 * 10^19 of this guy’s “dick units”, apparently.

Yeah that is interesting. He isn’t mentioned that much in the Bible/Torah, mostly in passing. And the English translation I read says “a mighty hunter before the LORD”. Which I took as he was a follower of God. But apparently in the original Hebrew, it can be interpreted as an antagonism to God (attempting to hunt the LORD?). So there is Jewish traditions not in the Torah that are similar to the Islamic one, including opposing Abraham. Additionally, he is listed as founding many cities including Nineveh and Babel. So he is associated with the Assyrians and often assumed that he was the king that ordered the construction of the tower of Babel.

But the Christian traditions I know of just read it as, “He was the grandson of Noah and a good hunter” since the other details are vague or not present in the Bible/Torah.

I know this keeps getting brought up in every one of these posts, but Nimrod is actually a Biblical/Torah name of a king listed as a “mighty hunter” in Genesis. It coming to mean dumb or a moron is due to a Looney Tunes cartoon where Bugs Bunny calls Elmer Fudd Nimrod sarcastically. The intent of the comedy was that Elmer was a terrible hunter being mocked by the contrast, but since most people don’t know niche Biblical characters, they just assumed it was one of Bugs Bunny’s stock jokes calling Elmer stupid.

Just a fun fact and explanation as to why you will find Jews named Nimrod.

Well, TBF there is a lot of avenues to get locked into legacy software in python. I am still modifying and using Python2 code because the drivers and libraries for hardware are only available in python2 and the hardware developers wont spend the money and time to create Python3 libraries. So I am stuck using an airbridged, un-updated python2 environment until it gets to the point of updating/backwards engineering python3 drivers and libraries for all our hardware ourselves.

Even the wikipedia article on LGBT rights in Germany, despite being very slanted and anti-communist, admit that West Germany had no national progress in gay rights until after the cold war. Saying the West/West Germany was more progressive and tolerant is just straight up false.

I haven’t really used much cheats. I need to find up to date strategy guides, because I play infrequently enough that every time I come back and play Russia, it seems they change the strategy to get Russia back to socialism. Do I appease the Mensheviks and SRs and Narodniks to build an empowered Left/Center-Left to where Bukharin is optimistic about a coup, or do I always crack down and take the furthest right position for accelerationism to kick in? I remember both at some point being the way to get there.
