  • The situations in Palestine and Ukraine are markedly different.

Ukraine has received immense support from Western nations since the start of the Russian invasion, i.e., in support of the defense of Ukraine. The democractic party has been in power since the beginning of that conflict as well.

Western nations have been giving support to the standing army of the defending nation, who are facing a professional army.

Palestine has been under seige from the beneficiary of Western support, i.e., in support of the offense of Palestine.

Western nations have given support to the standing army of the offensive nation, who are facing an insurgency who lack the personnel, training, and support systems of a modern professional army.

The civilian death counts in Palestine have been staggering. Over 44,000 civilians have been killed in Palestine in a little over a year. In Ukraine, over 11,000 civillians have been killed, despite the Russian invasion occuring in February of 2022, 2 years and 9 months ago.

The distinctions between the two situations are apparent, which is why people are being more vocal about Palestine.

I would say nothing about either of the conflicts has been convenient for most people, but both matters are important, albeit for different reasons.

Also, on a personal note, ilk? I didn’t realize we were in the Hog’s Head.

  • I think it’s the spirit of your comment.

It’s almost in the same vein as someone going to a magic show and loudly proclaiming that magic isn’t real and it’s all stagecraft.

I’d say your comment wasn’t exactly required, we all know it’s just stories. But it’s also an open forum and you’re free to comment all you like. If it’s any consolation, I didn’t downvote you.

If the highly publicized project 2025 and constant rhetoric is all you’re going off of, you’re not paying close enough attention. The right is propping up a dementia patient like it’s Weekend At Bernie’s, and they’re doing well.

Trump is backed by some of the world’s richest people, and a super power that is known for propaganda and disinformation. If you can’t tell which way the pendulum is swinging, it’s not my intelligence that should be called into question.

The right learned from their mistakes when they tried to rig the last election, and they’ve been putting in the work. I don’t know if it’s naïvitè or arrogance to believe that you putting a check in a blue box is going to stop the storm that is coming. If you’re waiting for November to see if you’re going to be safe, you are well behind the curve.

All that bad stuff you mentioned is going to happen, they’ve stacked the deck and they’re counting cards. This democracy is already done, you just don’t see it yet.

At the end of the day, all you have control over is what you support, and apparently you’re cool with supporting genocide. I’d like to be able to live with myself and not support an ethnic purge. You’re going to come up with all these reasons why you’re fine with selling Palestinians up the river, and still lose.

Has it happened? Are trans actively being bombed in their hospital beds? Are they being piled in the streets and run over with bulldozers, dead and alive?

To claim that trans are the victims of genocide is disingenuous and minimizes the experience of the people currently experiencing genocide.

I am not discounting the potential threat against trans in america, but Palestinians are being shot, burned, and bombed right now. Entire families, gone.

I don’t understand it, either. I’ve seen comics and comments about how not voting for a genocidal candidate might get trans people killed, while children are actively being blown apart and incinerated in hospital beds, currently, as we type.

I don’t like that trans people have to live in fear. I would like them to be as comfortable in their communities as the whitest, straightest, most christian dude in Texas is in his community.

Any argument for or against the current candidates that is laced with hyperbolic slippery slopes cannot overcome the actual murdering of an entire people that’s unfolding in front of us all.

I cannot buy into any argument that plays on the lesser of two evils, as we would still have to choose an evil.

Let’s be clear that this isn’t an easy world we live in, but I refuse to support a literal ethnic purge.

Saw an episode of doomsday preppers years ago. These dudes had a whole property out in Oregon or Washington state designed to endure a potential onslaught of zombies.

They had to quickly evacute their property and leave all their fancy stuff, because of a very real forest fire that came to visit, for which they were entirely unprepared.
