It is caused by DHT production and happens at the onset of puberty, after that you will either be bald by 21 or die at 90 with a slightly receded hairline depending on how sensitive to DHT you are. Something like 4% of the male population will never experience this kind of balding in their life. Most teenage boys don’t realise their hairline has started to recede because it isn’t really that noticeable at first.

It makes no sense why balding/receding hairlines are considered so shameful when it’s a literal extreme outlier that it will never happen to you.
