Everyone suffers under capitalism on some level. Most of us can’t really escape things like alienation from our work, communities, etc. Even the billionaires are losing their humanity, though most of them don’t even realize it.

Your understanding of socialism seems tainted by rightwing criticisms that misrepresent socialism, communism, etc. I’m not saying this as an insult or anything, you’re obviously not a rightwinger, but it’s a common issue because almost all of us live in a rightwing system and grow up learning this way.

Participating in capitalism does not make you a bad socialist, it’s simply necessary for survival. This is similar to the argument against a country like China, suggesting they aren’t really socialist because they participate in the global, capitalist economy. But if they didn’t do that, they’d never create the conditions to move forward.

Like yeah you could live in a commune or something, but that doesn’t really do anything and honestly seems worse than just living a “normal” life and trying to radicalize people around you. Basically we gotta change more than our own lifestyles and until we are in a position to change the system, there’s not much point in trying to figure out how to be a “good socialist” under capitlaism

Honestly, your friend’s response frustrates me. Being autistic and having difficulty understanding social situations is not just some excuse, it’s literally part of being autistic. Sure, work on it all you want, but if you’re autistic there will never be a point in your life where you can intuitively know a person is feeling some type of way. You might be able to tell something is different, but knowing what is actually going on is much more difficult (it’s difficult for everyone, but so much worse for autistic people)

Your friend might as well be telling you to learn how to fly. The best you can do is notice there is some change in their behavior and ask what’s up. There are some obvious indicators like crying, but even that can be an expression of various emotions. You can try to understand the context, but most likely the things you think are important aren’t even relevant.

The real solution here is when your friend needs more support, they should ask for it. They shouldn’t lash out at you after the fact, they should ask. If they can’t do that because their autism gets in the way, then they should understand that you also have trouble recognizing their distress if they can’t even express it clearly.

I basically review every PR now because of this kind of shit. So many people who will approve code that doesn’t even work or has obvious issues. Honestly they are blatant too, I’ve been in meetings where someone asks for a review and another person approved it right then, faster than anyone could possibly look at it much less actually run it. I don’t even need to like people to know that we gotta work together to accomplish great things and the best way to do that is ensure everyone has what they need to live day-to-day and long-term. Anything less than that seems like we’re giving up on ourselves (humanity) and letting the worst humans decide our fate.

Genuinely, communism makes perfect sense and any resistance to it comes from ignorance, misinformation/indoctrination, or the idea that communism is going to take away their wealth. For some of them that last one is true
