whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a really popular game franchise you just can't get into?4·7 days agoI wanted so bad to enjoy this game, but I felt like it did not return the sentiment. The biggest challenge was trying to get Arthur to do what I actually wanted him to do.
whelk@retrolemmy.comto SaltyCaramelApple@sh.itjust.works•Do you remember when Apple felt… fun? When was that, for you, and what were you enjoying?3·9 days agoOSX was the big change in feel for me, and I really didn’t like it though I can’t put my foot on why. Hmmmm. Our first home computer was a Macintosh Plus, and we had Macs exclusively for a really long time. I eventually switched to Windows XP for my first PC I put together myself. I still miss the old Macintosh systems 1-9, and sometimes I get Linux themes based on them for a nostalgia fix. I also love using Mini vMac to emulate those older systems.
I think part of it was that they (the pre OSX systems) felt full of signs and evidence that they were made by actual people. It wasn’t overly polished corporate product. They felt amateur in a way, I guess? I don’t know man, it just felt so much more real. Like it was made by people who worked on it because they thought it was cool or fun.
Thank goodness I eventually found Linux.

I miss it so much
Lemm.ee made me feel welcome and cozy in this new experience that was Lemmy. Admins and users I frequently noticed were chill and seemed to be overall decent folk. Appreciate everyone that made that instance what it was, thank you all and see you around on/from other instances.
whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite games that you never see mentioned anywhere?1·18 days agoDo it! Even if it’s just a reason to learn more programming. Those are always fun projects
whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite games that you never see mentioned anywhere?1·18 days agoI think of two things: asphalt, and trouble.
Man, I love this game.
whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite games that you never see mentioned anywhere?2·18 days agoI tried this after seeing Action Retro use it a few times to see if he could make it work on older machines he was tinkering with. Love the old school/simpler FPS feel of it, and the lack of nonsense. Boot it up, play
whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite games that you never see mentioned anywhere?3·18 days agoI’ve been playing a single ship only save this time around and it’s been a ton of fun. I allow myself to use fighters if a ship has a fighter bay, but no escorts (except mission NPCs of course).
I don’t know why but I absolutely love asteroid mining. It’s not like it’s deep or complex, but it just feels so satisfying somehow.

whelk@retrolemmy.comto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are your favorite games that you never see mentioned anywhere?3·18 days agoMan Uniracers is so good, my friends and I would have huge tournaments. Too bad Pixar got all uppity and claimed they had a trademark on unicycles. Good grief

Do we have any antifascist symbols?

I have a lot of cherished memories of playing video games with my kids. We’ve bonded over shared moments as well as over mutual favorites and their characters and storylines and worlds and art styles. I’ve shared my love of programming with my kids initially by helping them make their own little video games, and they now have the basics of a very useful skill.
I’d say like just about anything, video games can be good or bad depending on how they’re used and engaged with.
