Wife isn’t feeling good. This is sometimes the result of anemia. She takes iron supplements but occasionally you just need steak.
Cost per person: $13
Needs something green on the plate (and maybe some gravy). Now I want mashed potatoes.
I would love to veg things up but by the time steak becomes mandatory for physical health I’m in danger if I deviate from the comfort food due to her mental health.
If it were up to me this thing would be swimming in chimichurri, peppers or any number of other options.
I like to throw in some roughly chopped fennel to the same pan.
If I recall correctly, spinach has a lot of iron in it and it’s green. Added bonus, it makes you able to take on a bully!
She has a history of kidney stones. Spinach is one of the worst things you can give someone with that background.
I have kidney stones sometimes. They told me I couldn’t have leafy greens, and I was heartbroken.
I ignore it and just drink hella water with meals, so far it’s okay, but my shit hurts just thinking about passing another stone. Shit is rough rough, I feel for her
It’s actually nothing special in terms of iron content - about the same as most other vegetables. Its an old urban legend that it’s high in Iron and a deeper academic rabbit whole than you might expect - it is high in vitamin A though.
But it makes them feel better. That’s the real goal.
Oh yeah, for sure. It’s still good for you as are most vegetables, and tasty to boot, but I’ve experienced too many people treat anemia with a spinach rich diet (my family carries the thalacemia genes) so I try to point it out where possible to help inform others.
She has a history of kidney stones. Spinach rich is a no go.
Roquefort cheese to the rescue!
Damn, that is really cheap steak.
Cheapest ribeye we could find.
Not sure about the inside of the meat because it looks like chewing gum pink or the same colour pink musk sticks use
Usually steaks are a more reddish pink in the center
Looks like it was maybe too cold when they seared it. I’d have lowered the temp and cooked it a few more.m minutes. 3 maybe.
Even without anemia, Steak is a good idea anyways, at least from time to time.
The best treatment for anemia is liver, my man.
I’ve never seen steak tartare with a sear on it before.
Easily medium rare.
Cook it on a cast iron for some extra iron leaching goodness.
I’m just going to quote myself from last night on Bluesky from a completely unrelated post.
Same for cast iron. If you have a proper cure on there you will get zero iron.
