Apple butter is basically spiced applesauce that is cooked down more with a looser texture. Apple jam is going to be a lot stiffer in texture and typically isn’t as spiced if at all in my experience. Honestly I’d still call what OP made Apple butter by the look of it
I’m sure it does! Little trick that I use is after I’ve mashed down the cooked apples and put the pot in the oven I’ll put a wooden spoon just inside the oven door so the moisture can escape

In addition to what was already said, you can make other fruit butters as well, not just apple. Pear, peach, and plum butter are all common.
Subjectively, I also find it a lot easier to spread on bread than jam.
