Health insurance premiums for plans bought over the Affordable Care Act marketplace will increase 114% on average, more than double, if enhanced subsidies expire at year’s end
8 democrats did, not the entire party. The party is made up of individuals.
- Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia
- Senator Dick Durbin of Illinois
- Senator Jeanne Shaheen of New Hampshire
- Senator John Fetterman of Pennsylvania
- Senator Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire
- Senator Angus King of Maine
- Senator Catherine Cortez Masto of Nevada
- Senator Jacky Rosen of Nevada

If it wasn’t a coordinated effort by Chuck Schumer and the 8 rotating villains you mentioned (which are all not up for re-election, what a crazy coincidence), which is the most likely, then it goes to show how completely ineffective Schumer is at his job. Either way, they all need to go.
I’m a far-lefty, but I’m not mad because I think there’s a bigger strategy here: The subsidies were going to expire at the end of the year regardless. The republicans weren’t budging. I mean for fucks sake the unholy despot appealed to the supreme court to stop SNAP payments–that’s the level of devilry we’re dealing with. When the subsidies expired on Dec 31, dems would get the blame. By “caving” in exchange for a guaranteed vote before the expiration, they either A. secure an extension or B. Republicans vote no and shoulder the blame for premium increases. Look dumb now, win win later.
Edit: is anyone willing to discuss this?
The Republicans were already shouldering the blame for getting rid of ACA subsidies AND the shutdown. The Democrats gained nothing by this move
The Dems gained a bunch of seats in the election so Dem leadership figured it was time to shoot themselves in the foot again.
I’m not the most politically educated or aware, but what you’re describing sounds like Schumer (and these 8 dems who desperately need to be primaried) playing 4D chess when on its face it looks like they lost at tic-tac-toe. Public sentiment seemed to reflect the fact that Republicans owned the shutdown and disruption of SNAP benefits. They were “losing.” Why give them another chance to spin it again in a month?
Guaranteed. Lol.
That’s fair. I would trust my cat’s guarantee not to scratch my couch more than a Republican guarantee on anything.
Well its not just that. It was a “promise” which isnt the same thing. Plus the Speaker has already refused.
I can see this happening. MAGA I’ve spoken too belive it’s still on the Dems here. Now this might open their eyes, or the cult just believes the next lie. No reason to slam Dems now. Sure primary them if you makes you feel so betrayed, but this is what we are faced with now. Will it work? Guess we will see.
All I know is, Republicans won’t be coming up with a plan and this does now put pressure on Republicans to come up with something. If they don’t, it’s truely on them and no one else.
