Monopoly expert & author Matt Stoller joins public defender, author, civil rights lawyer, & founder of Civil Rights Corp, Alec Karatkatsanis, to hash out their online disagreements about the "defund the police" movement. Many lefty guests over the years have raised concerns with defund as a slogan or as a movement goal, but rarely do they have an opportunity to talk directly to an abolitionist and expert like Alec. God this guy is insufferable. Alec knows prison abolition and ‘defund’ movements inside and out. Lays out clear arguments and actual research on the subject. Then Stoller just says “I don’t believe you” and “my vibes tell me I’m right”.

Alec is super knowledgeable on this subject and it’s great to him and Briahna expound on the subject and offer strategies for moving forward.

    I’m like two minutes in and this dork keeps calling defund “an attack on the state” as if that’s a criticism. Yes, I want to attack states that only represent the interests of the wealthy. Yes, I want to attack states that do genocide. Why does Briahna seem to like this ghoul?

      I’ve listened to his podcast with David Dayen, and he generally has an interesting focus on Monopoly’s. But fuck, he’s completely talking out of his ass

        I just had to turn it off after Alec talked about actual specific facts and Stoller’s response was to handwave, intentionally misunderstand the criticism of policing as only serving the interests of the powerful, and act as though there’s no further thought beyond what Alec had already said. I don’t think this guy’s a wrecker per se, he’s just a liberal quite far up his own ass. Every point he’s mad so far is just vibes based and he assumes the left position is also vibes based when it’s quite clearly not.

        Fuck I hate liberals
