Basically the top mod of r/antimeme got catfished by another mod. They got ghosted for 2 days and basically had a crash out on the internet.
Then the catfisher contacted the mod posing as the catfishers brother and said that the catfisher “is no more”. This further tormented the reddit mod who then posted about it on reddit and put the picture of Lois Lane on a tombstone because they don’t know what their “GF” looks like and neither did they have their contact details outside of Reddit DMs and Discord.
Then they leaked their chat with the “brother” and became the butt of a joke. This is outright the funniest part of this whole thing.
Then several people exposed that the “dead” mod was well and alive on XBox and Minecraft.
Then the subreddit(r/antimeme2) that exposed it got banned by reddit because why not.
Holy shit man this feels like going back to 2013. By far the funniest thing on Reddit.

Karma Farming on Reddit from someone’s supposed death doesn’t make me like the person. It’s just that the plot twist was great.

This absurdity has been an absolute joy to me in a time of anxiety and I’m almost thankful for it.
I’m still not clear which it is: Are these both (and a couple more mods) the same person or did Riobox really get catfish’d? The latter explains the situation better, but I don’t think it’s certain. The farce of a chat really screams one person wrote it, beyond unbelievable either person would write one side of that mess. Yet, the antimeme2 people were talking about the late mod being an Indian/Burmese boy and head mod being Brazilian. Their interactions from a few months back also show the head mod being “seduced.”
It’s hilarious and pathetic all around. I occasionally saw their posts on the previous weeks and took their wife/husband routine literally, a couple with cushy jobs spending their time making memes and moderating subreddits together seemed possible. Thank heavens that’s not the case, this is much more enjoyable.
I hear the mod from [email protected] also died. Dont ask me how I know.

OK so course mediocre and riobox bought the comm to life at first. Then course was basically the only person posting. And like a LOT. Plus high effort stuff.
They basically banned anyone else from posting with updated rules.
This stuff happened. (Which certainly doesn’t sound true but let’s give em the benefit of doubt.)
The other antimeme comms claims I havent read on my own, but doesnt sound like they can know for certain either.

Most of course’s posts were stolen from other posters and their OPs deleted.
This entire thing was so funny because I saw the RIP/missing post and thought it was just a dumb joke that blew up, and then found out all this
Everybody involved is a grown adult… I guess this is just how my generation who grew up raised by the internet handles things now tho
I think this is more just how chronically online reddit mods handle things, most people of your generation are probably more well adjusted.
