I think many who consider it a slur just refuse to acknowledge that they do have privilege in some way that others do not

I have to disagree. If it’s used as an slur, then it’s a slur and more often than not, it’s used as a slur.

Every time I’ve ever seen cis used it was always in a negative context and I’ve never seen it used in positive context. The only time I’ve seen it used was on reddit and this is first time I’ve seen it on the fediverse. But in my opinion that just proves my point, it’s not a widely accepted name to call someone.

Seems a lot like some people are trying to justify and normalize an insult. It’s about labeling people so they fit in a box and are marginalized, it’s also about feeling empowered to those that use it, so it’s a slur.

and more often than not, it’s used as a slur.

          Oh, I see now

I’m cis, it’s just a descriptor, I don’t have all of the privilege, but I have a ton. Being cis is one of those ways where I am privileged, where I can’t be othered by those who are seeking to divide us, to divert attention from class consciousness.

Maybe it seems negative because the lgbtq community, and trans in particular right now, is under attack. Because that hostility is woven into their experience. Because most cis individuals are failing as allies.

I think you labeling it a slur is just a weak willed and convenient excuse to absolve yourself from being a bystander at best, or as an active effort to attack the community through language

Again, I’m cis, who cares? Get over yourself

I’m just pointing out the fact that it’s almost always used as a slur and context matters. Just because there are worse slurs out there doesn’t mean that cis isn’t being used as a slur.

What am I supposed to be getting over?

Nice gaslighting by the way. Seems a bit weird that pointing out a word is being used as a slur means that I’m not an ally.

“Used as a slur” - Anyone yelled “cis” at you from a moving car? Anyone told you that they don’t hire or rent to “cissies”?

Have you experienced any form of discrimination or harm do to being cis?
