If it’s like Stranger Things season 4, where they’re holding back the finale a few months until everyone is caught up, then it seems okay.
If it’s just to artificially stretch out the ending into another season, Peter Jackson has sent you a friend request.
If its satisfying then great. If its just a cash grab to drag out to 3 seasons, then it will harm the quality and storytelling.
They could go wither way, just telling the existing story but padding it out and filling in details not necessary for the game, or start telling new stories with new characters in the world.
Either can work but it can go wither very quickly. I have more faith in HBO than others but they have changed their policies in recent years.

I thought the series was bad. Watched the first 5 episodes and quickly started playing the game again.
What was bad about it?
They have taken too much creative freedom and rewritten lots of the story, even tho druckman himself was involved. The dark tones and grimness is lost in the series. The series is not awful but doesn’t come close to the game. In my opinion it’s a chick flick.
